well
uir right in the sense that they arent similar styles but both are well arguably equally 'important' for their contribution to music and came around the same time i think

i hate REM and love radiohead, but i realize that my disdain for REM is most likely a generation gap thing. From what I understand, Michael Stipe and Thom Yorke are good friends and talk regularly. they've also performed together.

Well, I prefer REM to Radiohead. I don't know who would win out in terms of important to music or anything like that though.

Around the same time? Hehe. Not quite. Off by about 10 years... ;)

REM, hands down. I like Radiohead but think they're overrated by many people of my generation. In concert, REM wins as well (IMO). In terms of impact? Let's ask this again in 10 years.
