I haven't had such problems on our iPhones. There were a few instability issues with iOS 7.0 but nothing to that extent at least with our iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, and iPad 2. And it's moot now anyway since the instability was eliminated with iOS 7.1.

In my experience also, the quality and consistency of the apps is better on iOS. Furthermore, I wouldn't recommend an Android phone unless it's a Nexus or Galaxy S series, for this reason. Compatibility issues.

I currently own a Nexus 7 and even today some apps aren't optimized for it. Many Android developers seem to target specific phones and largely treat the tablets, even Nexus, as 2nd class devices. I mostly liked the style and hardware of my Motorola Razr HD phone but even major apps sometimes were glitchy on it.

After this experience with Android I went back to iOS. I'm on an iPhone 5s and will replace the Nexus 7 with the next iPad Air release. I'll hand my Nexus 7 down to my toddler for car trips or whatever.

Does the iPhone screen change between portrait and landscape when rotating the phone?
While almost all iPad apps support both orientations, many iPhone / iPod touch apps are only designed for portrait. You only know when you try to rotate the screen. The home screen does not support horizontal orientation on iPhone or iPod touch, but it does on iPad. Control Center and Notification Center (swipe from the bottom or top of the screen) and the app switcher all support horizontal orientation on iPhone/iPod when they're activated from within an app that supports it.

One interesting thing: When you activate the rotation lock option from Control Center on iPhone or iPod touch, it only locks portrait (the same option on iPad will lock the current orientation). There's a reason for this. Apps that conform to iOS design guidelines don't need a horizontal lock option. For example, when I'm laying on my side in bed, I turn the device until it's in landscape orientation, then keep turning the same direction until the phone is upside-down in relation to the floor. Most apps won't rotate all the way upside-down, so it locks the horizontal orientation. This works very well since most apps do conform to iOS design guidelines.

Are there as many free apps on the iPhone as there are for Android?
(They won't be able to download apps that cost money. We need Bar Code Scanner and a couple of other apps like ERG 2012)
I haven't browsed the Android store extensively, but I'm a lot more comfortable downloading the free iOS apps than the free Android apps. It's clear that apps are analyzed deeper for malicious behavior and the store is more "curated." On the whole, iOS users are more-willing to spend money, so more app developers focus their efforts there. I was annoyed when I couldn't find a way to pay to remove ads on certain Android apps that were $0.99 with no ads on iOS.

Can you have 2 "Apple" accounts? One for your personal phone and one for the work phone.
(Some users already had iPhones and when they got the work iPhone they used their personal account to set up the new phone. I want them separate.
Lots of services can use different Apple IDs.
  • iCloud
  • iTunes / App Store
  • iTunes Match
  • iMessage

You can sign-out and switch, but it's a hassle...especially when you need to download an app update and you're asked for a password, but you don't remember which ID was associated with that app. The proper iOS experience is to use your own Apple ID for everything. This might change with iOS 8 since they're coming up with a way to define user groups and families that allow sharing of purchased apps between them.

This is on Verizon if it makes a difference.
TIA
I think the iPhone is still limited on Verizon. IIRC, you can't use data while you're on a phone call with any CDMA carrier (Verizon, Sprint, etc) unless it's through WiFi. You can use both data and voice simultaneously with any GSM provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc).

I am sure they will use the work phone for personal use. But don't come crying to me because you lost your work phone and all your kids pics were on it.
...

Shouldn't be a problem with iCloud and photo stream. After iOS 8, absolutely everything will be in the cloud account. The pictures and videos won't be re-compressed or resized.

just saying
my new 4s was great the first day until the poor batt gave out after 7 hrs with 4 emails and 4 short phone calls with blue tooth lol.with most data turned off
bb ran 14hrs +under the same day use [+3 hrs BT calls]never used the mobile charger ever
now the mobile charge cord does not work on day 3 lol
after 12hrs[unpaid time to add] to set this up to the enterprise network --why-----after 12hrs the phone finely let me know that my apple id was now invalid after the verification/conformation 12hrs before because I did not put a space between the 6 digit postal code and the free downloaded installed mobile program would not run lol.

have to add with the phone' s 5 minute lock up , while I'm talking on the the phone is beyond any LOL I can think of. oh btw you can't log in with the expanded keyboard as it is not required for Facebook users [small fingers maybe] what a joke of a state of the art stupid phone company

DAY 5 OF A IPHONE USER

"New" 4s? Probably a "refurbished" one with a bad battery and other issues. I also suspect you're using a terrible (possibly counterfeit) charger, which can damage phones and cause those issues. You're experience is extremely atypical and some of those statements make no sense at all.

You "can't log in with expanded keyboard?" Huh? I suspect you're talking about the option to use a password to unlock instead of a simple passcode. You most certainly can do that! What does it have to do with Facebook? If you didn't log-out of your account in the Facebook app, it remembers your login. You expect it to behave differently? Just leave it logged-in and lock your DEVICE when you're not using it.

You also have complete control over which notifications appear on the lock screen...so I can't figure out what that complaint is.

-company issued in a sealed box ,brand new

-enterprise so can't use simple pass words and complex ones are mandatory

-phone times out after 5 mins.-max setting , even in a phone call ,pausing to talk to someone while typing out a email, then you must log back in using the smaller keyboard. fine if you have small fingers some of us do not.
-still getting to know this phone but a lot of things could be made so it is easier to use imo
-also I'm a field tech so this phone for me is the only corporate comm link to get work orders ,clear them out ,and get everything most peeps get on their office phone / computer.

If they're going with complex password, they should have issued the 5s with the thumbprint reader. Also, the wider screen of the 5s (in landscape orientation) could make typing a lot easier.

I still don't understand why you would have a space in a 6-digit zip code. Maybe a dash -- if you include the 4-digit extension.

As a field tech I doubt you understand the enterprise.
