If you are not religious, why?

If you are, why?

Lets try to keep this to answers just to this OP and not comment on each others post.

I'm not religious because I've been provided with exactly no evidence of any God, among other reasons.

Same here, plus religions seem like a big scam to me. They take your money and promise heaven/virgins/etc.

I am Agnostic and don't claim to know if there is a god or not, and I definitely don't believe in any of the organized religions. After I lost my wife to cancer I even leaned towards being an Atheist.

Growing up I was given the choice and went to services with friends, but growing up around the LDS religion I saw alot of hypocrisy with alot of members and their message.

Yes, I would classify myself as Agnostic as well...I don't know if there is a god or not and I don't pretend to know. If someone were to ask me if I believe in god, however, I'd say no.

I don't believe in any religion since I think they are all myth rather than fact based. They may have been created to shape human society in a certain way but in today's world I don't think they have any value but rather are used by groups/individuals to perpetuate hate and violence.

I am agnostic in a way different from you guys.

I am not agnostic in that I don't know if there is a God or not.
I am agnostic in that I think it is impossible to really know if God exists or not, given what we think God is.

But since it is impossible to know, I take it on faith that "he" may exist. In my opinion he is everything in the universe: you, me that rock, God is in everything.

As you can see, I'm not part of any real religion.

I can agree with that, basically the Non-Omnipotent / Non-Omniscience / Non-Omnipresent god. My whole justification is that I don't believe a caring omnipotent god would allow the suffering that happens, whether random or at the hands of men. Unless of course we are so minuscle in the big picture 🙂

But not knowing what that Non-Omnipotent god, universe, etc. is makes me Agnostic.

Same here, plus religions seem like a big scam to me. They take your money and promise heaven/virgins/etc.

How is my religion "taking my money?"

They take your money and promise heaven/virgins/etc.

Sounds like government to me.

There are enough religion debates you can fight in, can we keep this thread jsut to everyones individual views?

Fighting? I just asked a question.

Maybe not yours, but people contribute to the Church to keep it afloat...

I am religious. God is love and I have experienced love, so I know that He exists. The rest is details.

I'm sure he was referring to tithe which not all religions have or enforce that strictly. The LDS religion has a 10% tithe that is somewhat manditory. Just stop paying and see what happens. I have seen friends and relitives forego paying bills such as car payments instead of cutting tithe for a month out of guilt or precieved responsibilty to the religion (LDS).

Tithing - The most important step toward achieving financial well being is to pay tithing first-no excuses or exceptions.

Another

Now I'm not claiming all Christian Religions are like this, but these are some examples that have turned me off from organized religion.

You tithe 10% like the Bible says, don't you? I've never known a preacher to turn down $$$.

The government never promised me anything of the sort, if anything they've promised more corporate welfare, war, and abstinence education. No thanks.

It is an actual biblical thing, like I posted above enforcement varies from religion to religion. But considering how many churches we have in this city alone (poulation 50k I can see whay they have to use strong arm tactics). Just lookng in the phone book there are litterly 2 pages of phone numbers / addresses 🙂

haha, it's more of a combination of hinduism in its most basic form (i really like the Gita), some philosophy, and a little bit of crazy.

I give some money to charity, organized and non. But not because the Bible tells me so, I do it because it makes me happy.

But you pay taxes, right?

He has to in order to maintain his freedom. There is no requirement to be religious to be free.

I guess my point was in regards to what he said here...

Government asks for money and promises all kinds of things that they don't live up to. So, by his logic, government is a scam as well. I agree with that.

Actually, the government doesn't even ask for it. They demand it.
