What do you guys think of these psus? According to reviews they are fairly reliable. Not sure if these are constant 485-585w psus. Need something around 400-500W and every dollar counts.

If all else fails ill dish out the cash for the 420W corsair. Trying to save money though. Make recommendations if you want.

Why the hell do people try to cheap out on one of the most important components in their computers? 🙄

HEC...no farkin way.

Rosewill...not likely, but in an emergency, maybe...but it'd get replaced ASAP.

Coolermaster, only if I had no other option...and only until I could afford to replace it.

FWIW, that Coolermaster is AcBel built. Not one of the most reliable.

The Rosewill units are both Solytech built. Also not very reliable.

The HEC units are HEC built...and their lower end units are generally considered to be junk quality. Not the worst of the worst...but in the same family.

Save a bit more money and buy a quality power supply.

In the "Under $50" range, Newegg has the Antec Earthwatts EA430D, a Delta built unit that's pretty reliable, and the Corsair CX430 Builder's Series that's a CWT build.

Both should do the job better than any of the ones you've listed, although at a slightly higher price.
Of course, you haven't provided the specs on the computer you want to power...so my recommendations may or may not work depending on the hardware.
 
Thanks for the reply. I just dont see how the reviews for the HEC are so decent. I really hate to spend the money for the antec or corsair but if i cant find another then i will. And I know how much wattage I need for my system.
 
I wouldn't buy an HEC or Cooler Master PSU. Rosewill actually does have a few decent PSUs, but I don't remember which ones. My recommendation is the same as BoomerD's.

It's your rig. The HEC units should work...but how long they'll last and what they'll take with them when they go are questions I can't answer.

At one time, HEC built semi-decent power supplies. Not great, but mediocre. Nowadays, their low-end units aren't very highly thought of AFAIK. (although some of their newer Cougar units are supposed to be decent)
 
Those Rosewill units you linked to are $40 after shipping. You can get an Antec EarthWatts 430W for the same price, after a tiny $10 rebate.

Easy. Newegg "reviews" are basically feedback from people who have (usually) purchased the products, and if it was cheap and didn't blow up then they will rate it good. The issue is that most computers don't need as much wattage as people think they need, so they buy something "extra" like these cheap units and think them to be great PSUs. In reality, most of these cheap "crappy" PSUs cannot actually put out what they claim on their labels, or if they can they are unable to do it at higher temperatures or cleanly.

I've had some issues with the CX430 V2, where it would work fine EXCEPT would not POST with socket 1155 motherboards. Had this happen with two of them, so not a fluke.

Any motherboard brand in particular? I used the CX430 V2 in a Gigabyte build (GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 Mini-ATX) for a family member without issue. They paid $17AR two weeks ago, which made the deal sweeter. The V2 revision also fixes the coil whine issue, but still no PWM fan, just in case that bothers anyone. 😉
 
Corsair CX430V2 works fine in the 3 Socket 1155 builds I built (2 Biostar, 1 Gigabyte) 🙂 Sturdy unit that one!!
 
I will put a recommendation for the Corsair CX430 as well. It will be WAY better than any power supply listed at the top.
 
i'd say tossup between the antec and the corsair. corsair gets a decided advantage as its on sale for $35.

previous version of this supply used to go on sale under $20 quite often. per camelegg this version hasn't been cheaper than this before.

Still curious about the enermax. Not too much faith in any rebate. I have bad luck with those.
 
My first rule of elimination for cheap power supplies.....if there's a voltage selector switch on the rear of the power supply, like the Tt and Enermax units have, they're automatically eliminated from consideration.

Now, that leaves you with the Corsair and Antec. Both decent units for what they are. The Corsair is a low end CWT build with decent voltage regulation (~2% on the +12V rail) and good ripple/noise suppression. The Antec is supposedly a low end Seasonic build, but I haven't seen a reputable test of it myself.

In any event, I don't think you can go wrong with either of those two. Both have a 3 year warranty, the Corsair is rated at 2A less than the Antec on the +12V rail, small difference. The Antec does NOT include a power cord.
 
Corsair. Their units are outstanding. I've owned several running DC24/7, and the one time I had an issue I just pm'd yellowbeard here. He is extremely helpful and has been a member here for many years.
