Reliable webhosting? (< $40 / month)

Hi,

Most posts regarding webhosting are looking for the cheapest, reasonably reliable webhost.

I'm interested in recommendations for a very reliable host. The primary concern is email (mostly POP3) but some webmail access. Would need to handle 15-20 accounts, no file attachment limits, mailbox sizes would have to be >= 25 megs on some accounts.

As I mentioned in the title, would like to keep it under $40 per month.

Thanks

Most reliable host ive ever used

You can get a free professional package with them worth like 2 thousand dollaz'.

I have the UK professional package and it costs me a fortune, they are offering it to you for free, take it while you can, its well worth it.

thats 2 for oneandone

All you have to do is register one domain for $10 and you're set for THREE YEARS!!!! Registering a domain get rids of the annoying @123onlineservice.blahblah1and1.com e-mail address. $10 for your own email address (@mydomain.com) for THREE FRICKING YEARS!!! 50mb storage and free server scanning software automatically scans for viruses!!!

I wouldn't go for reliable hosting at any place that gives out their services for free. It's a crappy business model and I'd like to have a webhost that will still be around in 6 months.

I'll recommend idologic.com

Z24, read the line twice before ordering. If you spend $40 wisely a month versus $10 wisely a month, expect something much better out of the $40 a month deal. Also, that does not mean Company A at $35 a month HAS to be worse than Company B at $37 a month. Do a little research and compare and see the kind of reliability they have as well as customer support. As in phone, e-mail, forum, etc.

Also, what exactly would you like to do with this website in terms of traffic? You don't have to disclose details but something general because if you pay for more than what you will use, its like getting a 120GB hard drive versus a 20GB when you only need 5GB.

Edit: As for reccomendations, I've used addr.com and jaguarpc.com in the past. Well, those were the two major ones atleast. Its been over a year using each, so I can't talk about their recent performance, but in the past when I used them, I got phone support which is a big plus from addr.com for sure, but possibly jaguarpc.com as well (Live, not a message and response type thing)

Not hard at all unless you are the server admin.

What?

I was quoting "You get what you pay for"

Why? Its like buying a motorcycle for all seasons versus a car. If it begins to snow, the motorcycle is very dangerous, but in the car, you can still handle many conditions.

The sentence I quoted makes absolutely no sense.

I have done extensive research on quality web hosts and have or had accounts with half of the hosts on my list.

All of those web hosts share similiar characteristics:
  • Have been in business for at least 1 year.
  • Is not a one man show. Has more than 1 paid employee.
  • Has qualified experienced, friendly and helpful support techs available 24/7.
  • These are not oversold crowded RackShack Celeron servers ... most are at least P4 2.4GHz (some are Dual XEON's) with 1GB RAM, SCSI hard drives, etc.
  • The fact that they are earning a profit, making a living, and want their business to thrive. Versus someone just starting out who is barely scraping by hoping to carve a niche in the crowded web hosting market.

minendo nailed it, being server admin is not easy (speaking from personal experience).

At least minendo is taking the time to learn Linux, where as I'm a lazy ass but that's another issue of mine :)

Being a reseller is VERY easy. I would recommend getting a small resellers account which starts at $10/mo.

You create all the packages you want, you specify the resources for each domain, if they get CGI access or not, etc.

Wow, the responses are coming in faster than I can read them! (well, almost).

I've had experience with www.dathorn.com (set a friend up with them). I understand the flexibility of a reseller account, but in this case it's not required. This is for a small company that wants / needs very reliable email service. There will be very little actual web traffic.

RossMAN, do you have any comment on Pair Networks? I'm going through your list and looking at the options right now...

With a resellers package you don't have to resell (just ask Nocturnal I think he uses his dathorn to host his and a friends web site).

I thought you were just going to host your own sites?

clook.net bills you for the resellers account, you handle the billing and support to your clients.

In the beginning you can do it all for free:
1) PHPCoin is a FREE script which handles sign ups and client management.
2) Use Paypal to accept payments, cash, checks, etc.
3) There are free tech support ticket systems.

Reselling to yourself or paying clients is VERY easy.

You can consolidate all your web hosting accounts into one, sell a few small packages to people for $5/mo and get your resellers account for FREE.

pair.com has been around for a while and is reliable.

If you want reliable web hosting for a small account I would go with:
