I understand what you mean. That's why I suggested Nuvio. They are normally a business class supplier that only got into the residential game when Sunrocket went under.

So far, I've never had an outage.

How long have you had Nuvio? What type of use do you put through it? Several calls each day, just a few each week? How's voice quality? I just bought a IP650 for my home office and am going to try out Vocalocity and see how good they are. My main needs 1) Reliability, it works all the time 2) Call quality I'm willing to pay extra for a good quality and good sounding hosted SIP VOIP provider

As long as they support Ulaw or one of the other codecs that sounds good you will get great voice quality. Most VOIP is ULAW, 80Kb/s in 80Kb/s out. My IP430 Does, the IP650 did, and so does the vonage adapter. I was just in awe over the way the 650 handled it. Gotta remember its digital, so when it comes to quality from the provider its either perfect or it breaks up. Like digital TV, crystal or Nothing. How it sounds to you depends on the phone.
To save you some time, configure it over the web interface just hit the phones ip in a browser. If it asks for a user name and pass the default is Polycom (note the capital) and the pass is 456
Make sure the provider will let you talk sip to them. no IAX unless your running a PBX. I work phones a lot, And i love the polycom's, If you have a problem post it, i will try to help. The only thing you might run into is a registering issue.

If i had $300 right now i would buy a 650, I have been wanting one for a long time. And working with them all the time at work is just a slap in the face.

Just FYI, the IP550 and the IP650 are the same phone...the only difference is that the 650 has 6 buttons to the 550's 4 and the 650 can use the expansion module (SIP firmware 3.0 required for the backlit expansion module).

The phone I have no doubt will work great, if I have any problems with it, I'll give you a holler. I'm just hoping vocalocity works out pretty well. Every provider I've talked to said "no provider is without some downtime" which to a point they're right, but if you have the right equipment and redundancy, you should have no problem getting atleast 99.99% uptime. Maybe I'm off on that but if you have redundant lines, redundant backup data centers, etc, it shouldn't go down. My only other options is Nuvio. I see excellent reviews with them but right now, they don't seem to have numbers in my area code, have to call them on that tomorrow. Any other ideas?

Yeah, but i like the fact that i have 6 line keys, im running 2 lines on my 430, which only has 2 line keys, and trying to make another call when you have to use the same line key is a pain.

Kevnich, I'm not that up on providers for the fact that i only use my works stuff. We have copper and internet VOIP termination, Can't specify which providers. Like you have already said, you are willing to pay more for a good uptime. I have used a friends Teliax account for prank calling and it did really well, But i think they only do IAX not SIP.

Well the 650 I'll be getting will have 6 line keys but, honestly on any phone I've had, maximum I've had to use at one time is...4 I think. Man, was I busy that day. I'm definitely looking forward to the 650. I had to buy a phone so I figured, I can either get one I sort of like for $200-$250 or get one that I would love for $300.

Yeah, its nice to have. good for speakerphone conferencing. Was talking in a conference bridge once with about 25 people, Man was that stupidly insane, everyone was talking over eachother.

I can only say that I've never had an outage related to Nuvio - it's always been my ISP causing the trouble. They use the standard codec (think it's 739) and then a reduced bandwidth codec that you can turn on in your admin panel.

I don't have any complaints with the service itself. Two things that I don't particularly care for though is that their web interface is clunky and a bit slow, and their voicemail isn't as user friendly as other systems I've used in the past.

We use it for about 10-15 calls a day, and I've had it now for about 8-9 months (since sunrocket closed up shop).

Do you have the business nuvio or residential? Who did you buy it from, directly from Nuvio or someone else? I've been looking at their reviews since you suggested them and I'm very pleased with what I see.

I've got the residential package - I'm not sure how that might differ from the business package.
