Reliable 1TB or 1.5TB drives?

I'm looking for input on which 1TB or 1.5TB drives have proven reliable. These drives will be used for backup and powered-on only occasionally. Reliability is more important than speed.

Thanks for any suggestions.

no such thing.

you can get benchmarks adn such from storagereview.com but reliability is a cr@p shoot people do not buy enough to have a good sample. no drive should be assumed reliable, its why theres raid and backup.

what you say is true, but you know there are companies that make better drives. For example, many people have horrible experiences with Maxtor or some Segate drives.

I've owned WD, Segate, Samsung. Built several computers using F1 drive and never had any problems, unlike my WD or segate ones. (this is based on 10 Samsung, 3 WD, and 4 segate drives)

I had Samsung Drives that died on me.

People do not get it. When dealing with the top Brand Past trouble with Drives of previous Model are not necessarily an indication of the value of current Models.

Whether any of the current Models is having problems would be apparent only few years from Now.

Unless One has inside information from any of the manufacturer concerning the real quality of the component inside the drive, the only way to decide on the drive of choice is by looking at benchmarks that differentiate the performance of the drives across different types of computing tasks.

Then choose according to the best Benchmark and price.

General Brand preference is mainly a social/marketing factor and has very little to do with technology.

I think it's a bit early to know which 1 TB+ drives are most reliable. I think most folks would suggest that the Seagate 7200.11s are not among the candidates. Other than that, I'd say it's a wash right now. Like U.S. Presidents, we may only recognize their greatness years later (hehehehe).
