Ya I think I'd much rather have a bunch of preying mantis around the house but I've heard good things about lady bugs as well.

Looks kinda like a bird house except smaller entry slits. I guess the lady bugs just eat other bugs that try to seek shelter in there. Does it actually work?

I still have the ladybug house but I brought it indoors for the winter. I could put it outside again and hope to attract more ladybugs. But I'll probably by another container of live ladybugs again since they are not really expensive.

We were noticing insects eating our tomato leaves and other plants which is why I purchased the ladybugs. You also have other bug predator options like praying mantis which will also eat insects. There are also nematodes which eat things like grubs etc...

you can even buy a set of 400 mantis eggs.
Those insects are evil and scary when they get big though, I hate it when they attack.

I wonder, does it work? Don't they all just fly away?

They're pretty cheap anyway so you can probably just buy a batch every year if they really work.

That reminds me of the day I was working in the garden...felt like I was being watched...and saw this:

I've hatched a lot of them before. I've probably seen 5x as many nymphs before. There are two distinctly different kinds of mantis egg sacs around here.
