Hey everybody. My dorm at UW-Madison is sending 2 teams to "Relay for Life" a team relay program to raise money for cancer research. The leader of my team has lost two aunts (one under 40 and the other in her early 40s) to cancer. I've been lucky enough not to have lost a family member to cancer, but I know what a terrible disease it is and am trying to do my part to find a cure.
The walk lasts all night and as a team we constantly keep one member on the track at all times. There is also a lap where only cancer survivors make their own lap for inspiration.
Our team walks from 9pm to 9am after the sun has fully risen as a symbol of the life after surviving cancer.
I just started collecting donations for this cause. It is not on a per mile or per lap basis though since it is a team relay. Our team set our individual goals at $150 each. (mine shows up as $130 because $20 was donated to the team instead of me and it will be counted towards me in the end)
I would appreciate it sooo much if you could donate just $1 to this cause. If enough anandtechers each donate $1, we'll raise a ton of research money together.
If with your help, I end up raising twice my goal ($300 but it would show up as $280), I promise I'll not only walk my share but I'll walk all 12 hours (with a 5 minute break each hour). I've practically done this working at the Milwaukee County Zoo during a la carte but I'd love to do it for a good cause this time.
Thank you so much for your support!

I'm sorry if this is against any forum rules to ask for donations. I didn't see anything against it in the FAQ but feel free to lock this if it's against any rules.
EDIT: Also in case anyone wants to know where their money would be going, 100% of the money raised here goes directly to the American Cancer Society. There is a team fee that the members pay out of pocket to cover all expenses for the event so that all money raised will go to the fight against cancer.
EDIT#2: Whoops, it turns out the minimum donation amount is $5. Sorry about my "everybody donate $1 suggestion"
EDIT#3: Evadman is my hero (double goal met)
EDIT#4: new title to hopefully gather more interest
EDIT#5: last minute update
EDIT#6: walked more than a marathon distance... so sore
