YEah where was it at, New Rome is a nice little 3 block long speed trap, that is probablly the most corrupt city in the world. Of the 30-50 residents 14 are cops, and they get more then half thier city budget from speeding ticket fines. I would call somebody in the ohio department of transportation to figure out if this is legit or not. Although it seems it could be.

Is this legit? Ohio sucks.

Well thats just rude, you can't say Ohio sucks, just because of this thread, or because of one stupid cop. I am not saying the OP is a liar, but you don't even know the full details of this. It just sounds like a greedy cop to me, but I would think we would of heard of this on the news if it happened alot. Although one thing that makes me wonder is that if he was indeed doing 85 in a 60, then that is wreckless endangerment, which is a lot worse then just a standard speeding ticket, so maybe that ha something to do with it.

So did he actually get a ticket from the cop? I would definately contest it, or at least try to figure out what the deal is. I can't believe a cop would do something like this, knowing full well that motorist could easily get him in trouble, assuming what he did was indeed wrong. Just sounds odd to me. We need more details.

I say ohio sucks because i lived there for 4 years in Cinci. One nice highlight was coming back from Cleveland to Cinci and going through near mansfield on 71, i was seen by a cop, who was in the median, while i was going the speed limit with windows down and he said he could tell my windows were tinted. All 4 windows were down on my focus. He made me put them up and gave me a ticket for tint that was barely illegal in ohio (i had it done in KY).
Cleveland is the only good thing about that god awful state.

*edit*
It was between ashland and mansfield that i got pulled over. I have heard of numerous people getting popped there for going less than 10 over.

They left for a moment and then came back and said, "We will let you go this time to further the German American relationship."
You pwned the nazis!
Years ago, when the world was young, humans used paper and pen to store data until it could be sent(usually by spoken voice over a phone line) wherever it needed to go.
I remember! Within the past three years i've even used one of those machines that stores the CC number for later use!

Corrupt or not it sounds like a bad place to commit crimes!

New Rome doesn't exist anymore.

There are exactly ZERO places in Ohio where the speed limit is 70. The highest legal speed anywhere on Ohio public roads is 65.

If your relative is claiming that there was a 70 mph speed limit, he is lying. Period.

Paying the speeding tickets on the spot for out-of state people is getting to be common. In WI we have idiots from Illinois who come flying up I94...when they are pulled over, if they don't pay the ticket at the time they are put in jail. Why? Because otherwise they NEVER pay the ticket........Illinois people complain but as soon as we go into their state we are hit with toll roads.....
- If you don't like it, don't speed....

Yep, I am sure that going 25 MPH over the speed limit with out of state plates had no part in him getting pulled over.

Everything in life is about racism:roll:

To quote the OP:

Oh ya...uncle has a beard and doesnt maintain it well. Looks like an arab.

From his description I assume the following:

1. He is not an Arab

2. His beard makes him look unkept or dirty

Amazingly it isn't wreckless operation everywhere. In Illinois up to 30 MPH over on the interstates is only a $75 fine.

It makes perfect sense. I'm glad I read this so I don't accuse a cop of corruption.

How do you find that out for alabama? I couldn't find when I looked what the rules were!

In Illinois my friend found out by getting caught doing 91 in a 65. I'm not even sure why he was going that fast. We were headed to the Final Four, but had plenty of time to spare.

Paid with a credit card in her patrol vehicle.

jail for not putting on a seat belt? That's a bit over the top isn't it? ohio sucks

My mom is from Ohio and when she was married to her first husband back in the 70's, I remember she said that he or she got a ticket and they made them follow the cop to the station and pay on the spot. Definitly some shaddy things going on.

I've never heard of having to pay a fine right on the spot. Is that even legal?

Many small municipalities depend on traffic revenue to support their town. And since they control the police and the police have the ability to ticket you, it creates a conflict of interest. Of course it's in their best interest to hand out tickets whenever possible to generate revenue. Who is going to stop them?
