1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
I will use it on Chief Architect and Punch home design programs(rendering and 3d walkthroughs), Quicken, Access database work, record occasional tv programs (optional), Other MSOFFICE applications, gaming (infrequent but would like fun not bleeding edge)
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread.
I would like to relate budget to the above needs in item 1, my anal retentiveness just does not want me to waste money. I am expecting around $1,000 but could go much lower or higher if folks think it is necessary for the above.
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
USA
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
No preference between intel and AMD.
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
I will reuse mouse, keyboard, and Monitor(Samsung 220 MW).
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Information overload, everything is price based rather than use based.
It seems I can get a Core 2 duo system for $1,000, a Phenom x4 system for $1,250, and an i7 for $1,500. But no clue as to what relates to my use in item 1.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No plans to overclock, would need to be family proof with any fan adjustment automatic.
8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
April-May 2009
9. Other:
[Will pay extra for quite (extra $100 dollars).
Will pay extra for "easier" components/build (newbie builder, want all cables and pieces when I order it)(Extra $150).
Mid or full tower with USB and such on top, tooless design, factory cooling if possible.
Automatic backup files and data on second hard drive, can always reload programs and OS. Need recommendation of Raid configuration or backup program. Currently only pushing 60GB hard drive for space.
Don't want to have to tweak the system much once it is up and running.
Confused on 32 bit or 64 bit OS and what I need.
Basic Blocks Thoughts:
Case: Silverstone Kublai KL03 $155
PS: Silverstone ATF600 W $106 plus $40 dollar rebate = $66 (Seems like a deal at Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail at $135
Optional Video Card: HIS Hightech H485QT512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported IceQ4 Turbo Video Card - Retail at $150
Hard Drives: 2 Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM Both for $150
CD/DVD : 2 SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S223Q - OEM - Both for $50
OS: Microsoft Windows Vist Home Premium SP1 32 Bit $99 (optional 64 bit??)
Total Basics no matter how I go = $670
AMD system Adder:
Mother board: ASUS M4A79T Deluxe $190
Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 940 Deneb $215
CPU Fan: Thermalright ultra 120 extreme $60
Memory: G. Skill 8GB (4x2GB) 240 pin DDR2 1100 Quad Kit $140
Total = $605
Core Duo system Adder:
Mother Board: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 $135
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHZ $165
CPU Fan: Thermaltake CL-P0114 Big Typhoon $40
Memory: Corsair Dominator 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 1066, two sets at $40 for $80
Total = $420
i7 System Adder:
Mother Board: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 $290
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 $290
CPU Fan: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 $80
Memory: Corsair XMS3 6 GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600 $102
Total = $762
So for my use should the Core Duo system last me for many years or should I go up the price ladder?
And of course, am I selecting the right components for the "quite" and "ease of build" I am looking for (that extra$200 to $250 I built in)?
Thoughts on the data backup being software or Raid?
Is it worth the hassel of a TV tuner card for recording the occasional TV show?
