I want to reinstall Windows XP. Since the CD is bootable can I just pop the cd in and write over the existing install. Or do I still have to fdisk it? Thanks for an answer to a stupid question.

I believe you are given the option to do a repair setup or clear the partition and setup anew.

I just did two repairs on a hard drive which is a basic install over top. By repairing, you wipe out the device manager and re installing all your devices afterwards. I went from a BX chipset to a Via and back to a BX with only little problems.
All your settings different from default in winXP will have to be reselected but your programs will be fine.

Just a quick Q, does one have to "re-activate" winXP after reinstalling it with a a video card change? Do I have to call up microsoft and tell them or should I not have a problem? What should I do when the "Activate Now?" prompt comes up?
