Ok, I need help guys. I was reinstalling Windows XP by booting off the CD to repair system 32 files that were corupt by a virus. Anyways, for some reason I it would be a good idea to go into Msconfig and change it to boot in Safe mode(/safeboot). I was unable to fix it there.
I decided to repair my installation so I didn't lose any of my files. I did this diecty after I was in safemode. Now when Windows setup(XP pro) comes to the second step for the installation it goes straight to safe mode and I get a messege that says "WINDOWS XP PRO SETUP CANNOT RUN IN SAFE MODE, Safe mode will reboot" [OK]
Now I am stuck in this loop where I can't access any part of Windows because it keep restarting on me. Even pushing F8 and selecting normal startup yeilds the same result. What I need to do is change my boot.ini to /fastdetect but I don't know how to do this. I have tried a boot disk and copied over a new boot.ini that has /fastdetect into my C: drive. It did not fix it.
My main goal now is to recover my files, so I may have to try installing windows to /windows1 and backing it up from there. I have a feeling this is heading towards a format... I still would like to try to get this fixed, you guys are my last hope!
Thanks
