Reinstalling Windows XP

I want to reinstall Windows XP but can't find my original upgrade disk. My concern is if I buy another Windows XP upgrade will I be able to format my hard drive and reinstall Windows XP because I no longer have the Windows 98 disk to show proof.

Yes I have the key and cover but no disk
Call Microsoft and give them the code off the cover that starts with X (not the install key), and ask to buy a new CD because you lost yours.

I'm almost positive you can do a new install without the Win98 cds - the installation sees the current version of Windows on the drive & uses that as the requirement.
