reinstalling windows 2000

so, my computer is getting kind of slow, so im going to reinstall windows 2000 on it.

i made an image, with acronis true image, of all the files i need, and i have it on an external drive.

my plan so far is this:

1. DBAN my drive.

2. Re install windows

3. Install all drivers

4. Install AV/Firewall

5. Restore Files, after reinstalling acronis.

6. Scan for viruses, even though i have already scanned all my files, but just to be safe.

7. install firefox

8. install my programs.

9. yay!

is there anything i missed here? any changes you would make? also, this is the main computer on my home network, and i have another computer sharing the internet connection. will i have to reconfigure my router and stuff? or will it be fine?
 
I don't know what DBAN is, but Win2k has a formatter that works great.

I suggest:
9. Use Acronis True Image to image the drive to a file on a USB drive.

So, you now have the difficult task of reinstalling and customizing, Microsoft Office, all of your third party software, such as, Adobe Reader, Photoshop, Virus protection, your printer drivers, etc, etc. This all takes a lot of time and effort, especially if you happen to have lost the disk that came with your printer that included the printer drivers. Even worse, you often find that the disk that came with your printer does not have the necessary Windows XP/2000 drivers.

So, reestablishing a Windows system is a royal pain in the ass. In contrast, if you are satisfied with only partially accelerated video drivers, reestablishing a Novelle SuSE 10.0, is pretty much all done in 30 or 40 minutes. However, if, for example, you have an ATI video card and wish to install the fully accelerated ATI drivers, this may take you forever, as the installation seems to have been deliberately sabotaged.

On occasions, getting Windows back to the way it was, has taken all day (and sometimes longer). When people tell you how easy Windows is to install, they as lying by omission, as they omit to tell you that the install is just the beginning of reestablishing a Windows system.

Skip DBAN and just reinstall Win 2000.

Install NAV or Mac Afee.

Install Spysweeper

Do a backup or clone, your choice.
