How would I go about reinstalling the GIMP? I am using Linux redhat and when I used GIMP for the first time, I closed all but one of the windows that came up for the program, such as the layers and colors pallet, and now I can't figure out how to get them back.

$ rm -rf ~/.gimp*

Next time you run the GIMP a new config will be written.

The period before the name makes it hidden. For example, ls wouldn't show it, however ls -a (to show all files) would. I know the -rf switch will remove a directory (.gimp), I'm not sure of the exact meaning offhand. man rm to see all the options.

-rf means recursive force, it'll remove the entire directory without asking. ~ is your home directory.

.gimp is the directory name, usually files beginning with a . are hidden, if you do ls -a you'll see a lot of them in your home directory because that's where programs store their configs.
