I just installed XP for my aunt on her dell. It was a mess before and had to be done. I customized via crystalxp.net and more. It's great!! Except she got it home and her darn mouse and keyboard won't work. I wasn't aware she had wireless, I would have had her bring them to me when I did the reinstall. Though my MX700 doesn't have that issue. She lives an hour away so I can't do much in person. I suggested she borrow a mouse from a a neighbor/friend to get into xp. Its a dual user setup so it doesn't just go in.

My question is do you think Windows will automatically recognize the wireless desktop once she gets into xp? Not sure of the model. It would be a 2 year old low end dell wireless setup.

She might need to re-link the keyboard and mouse.. u know the button on that controller.. unless its a different type of model..

She tried that. She also said the green light is lit on the receiver for the wireless setup.

She got another mouse, a wired USB mouse. It won't work either.

She contacted Dell. They are sending a new mouse and keyboard. I laughed when I heard that! Nice troubleshooting Dell! Atleast she will have new components.

Any thoughts please?

If I could get into Windows, downloading drivers might be an option.

My aunt was able to borrow a PS2 mouse and keyboard. She was able to get into Windows that way. I walked her through the installation of her USB wireless mouse and keyboard. That consisted of plugging them in and following the Found New Hardware installation process. Nothing additional needed.

Maybe Vista will have better native support for USB input devices.
