I'm wanting to reinstall my Windows ME operating system, but, would like not to have to reinstall all my application and game software, is it possible to do this, by avoid formating, and, start the WIndows ME installation, and, when prompted to chose a folder to install Windows, instead of the "C:\windows" make a new one, say, "C:\windows000" ? Would this keep all my applications and games, etc., and operate them out of the new folder?

Nope, won't work. If you install windows to a new folder you will have to reinstall all your apps. :(

Backup your registry and see if that will do anything
Probably would just cause more problems though.

I use Win Me also. When I set up my system I particianed the HDD - I set aside 5 meg of HDD space as Drive C: and made the rest Drive D:. The C: drive is strictly for my OS and games and so forth are always installed on the D: drive. Since that time I have done clean OS installs several times. Sometimes it is necessary to reinstall the games and so forth, but most of the time they work fine. I guess it depends on how the game/program installs. Hope that helps a little bit.
