I ganked my back about a year ago. I was on leg press machine-one of the horizontal to the floor kind- I was doing my max at the time about 310 lbs and at the top of my rep I back popped and my legs just went limp. Well, I stupidly figured it wasn't too serious. I finish my workout, including the torso twist deals. It wasn't bad until I got home. After 30 mins of driving it really set in. I had to crawl out of the car and into my house. It took me about 3 hours to crawl up my stairs (20 steps) through the excruciating pain. Its gotten better over time, but I still don't feel like I did before. There is just something 'wrong' in my lower back.

What are some good exercises for someone with a bum back?

Rehabilitate my back
What??? Make me!

1. 310lb max for leg press is not much...but we'll sidestep this for the moment.
2. If it's that serious, you should be calling 911 instead of sitting in front of a computer. If it takes you 3 hours to go up a flight of steps, you need some serious help.

I think that is the problem with the horizontal machines, they don't isolate your legs like a hip slead, but rather find the weakest spot in your whole system, in my case my spine. 310 isn't a lot, but it was enough to gank my back.

This happened a year ago, but I haven't been at 100% since.

I had some serious lower back problems from little kids running into me halfway into the lift of a 3x max squat. Suffered for about six months before I discovered trigger point therapy. I was dedicated to it and I got results real fast. No problems now.

If you look hard you can find a copy of bonnie prudden's book for less than five bucks. You don't need to buy any of the tools advertised on the internet but if you MUST, go for a tripod. You can put it on the floor and do your back exercises with it that way; the 's' and the 'bodo' are just wastes of money IMO.

Good luck.

edit: Age? Any other back and/or orthopedic problems?
