Regulate what??

David Barton, the evangelical Christian founder of the group Wallbuilders, thinks that the federal government should regulate gay sex the way it does alcohol, cigarettes, and certain harmful food ingredients.

According to Right Wing Watch, Barton and his co-host Rick Green made the bigoted proposal during their Wallbuilders radio program on Tuesday, in which they butchered health statistics to argue for one area where their limited government agenda could make room for federal intervention.

“… So if I got to the Centers for Disease Control and I’m concerned about health, I find some interesting stats there and this should tell me something about health,” said Barton.

“Homosexual/bi-sexual individuals are seven times to contemplate or commit suicide. Oooh, that doesn’t sound very healthy,” he cooed.

“Homosexuals die decades earlier than heterosexuals. That doesn’t sound healthy.

“Nearly one-half of practicing homosexuals admit to five hundred or more sex partners and nearly one-third admit to a thousand or more sex partners in a lifetime," said Barton.

Right Wing Watch provides audio and a transcript of the conversation.

I'd like to know how these people think their desired "regulations" will be enforced.

I wonder if he thinks they should also regulate heterosexual sex because of the costs to society from un-wed mothers and teenage pregnancy. ... oh wait, I think he would probably love that idea.

I am pretty sure he would like to enforce those regulations by creating a "gay" list, and tracking them with ankle-bracelets. He would probably also like the system to track them and make sure they never come near his kids.

Never forget that these people have lived most of their lives following their beliefs and living in the belief that they are good people because of it. They don't want to see that they were wrong, because then they might have to admit that they have not been a good person, or that some of the other things they believe are wrong. Some of them are quite willing to create a horrible police state if that police state will reinforce their worldview and protect them from the truth that destroys their self image.

Is he an immature black person?

The fundies don't like hetero sex shops in their neighborhood either.

They just don't like sex, it seems. Even though sex is incredibly pleasurable and a learning experience (there's no such thing as sex without real-life consequences) and, for some, a means to procreate, fundies still don't like sex. What a pity.

Fundies love sex, they just don't like casual or deviant sex. Well, some of them just don't like getting CAUGHT having casual or deviant sex. But that's the human condition.

Well the last time I had legal training at work they told us that Gays were a group that had special protection under the law. So in some ways maybe gays should be regulated so people have equal rights.

Fundies love sex, but they like to pretend that it doesn't exist because their religion(s) tells them that it's wrong to love sex. And they like to tell other people what (not) to do because then they get to bask in their misguided sense of moral superiority, as that overshadows the guilt they feel for loving sex.

I always wondered if it was because they know the more taboo they make it the hotter and nastier it is. 😛

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *breath* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :awe:...
wait I'm voting for a R this November. 🙁

I guess this guy doesn't associate with many normal people or he'd have a clue how absurd he sounds.

I guess if you have your head up your ass far enough, you can't imagine how everyone else doesn't see Preparation H as the solution to everything.

if they didn't outlaw it it wouldn't be as thrilling

LOL Probably not, and at least there's the thrill of exercising naked power over others.

The county in which I was born and raised last year passed a resolution making it illegal for any gay people to settle in the county (since it certainly had none at the time) and calling on the state to ban homosexuality. It's easy to get swept up in an echo chamber and do something really stupid. (And yes, the meeting the next day, where they overturned their resolution, was really, really short and involved taking no questions from the big city press.)

Note that I know a lot of these people and they are by and large NOT bad people. I myself didn't know there even was such a thing as homosexuality until eighth grade, and doubted it really existed until well into high school. This is the rural heartland, the Bible belt, and people simply didn't behave in that fashion. When you live in an area with limited types of persons it becomes very easy to see everyone in that same light and to associate goodness with that type of person - and to see danger, if not outright evil, in those who are different. It's also easy to see oneself as the embodiment of all that is right and proper, and thereby judge everyone else by how closely they match you rather than by how their actions actually, materially affect others.

This applies equally to judging homosexuals and to judging religious fundamentalists, of course.

You really have nothing to worry about from the occasional Christian kook you happen to come across...you really need to worry about Islam and folks like the Islamic Defenders Front.

Well - unless you work in an abortion clinic. Or you're a homosexual making a pass at the wrong guy - or sometimes in view of the wrong guy. Or you happen to live pretty much anywhere in central Africa. There's a huge difference and I'm all for pointing it out repeatedly, but we have to admit we're not ALL sunshine and roses.

What's wrong with worrying about both?
