hi there, i've managed to screw up my registry after installing a series of divx codecs and am now unable to play any audio/video files other than quicktime. i was hoping somebody could provide tips on how i could restore my registry so that i could play normal audio video files (e.g., cds, mpegs, divx, basically anything that wmp or real audio would touch). right now, anytime i even select a video file, my folder crashes and wmp refuses to play any cd or wma/mp3. quite annoying.
my first mistake was indiscriminately installing every divx codec i could get. after i realized this could create conflicts, i made my second mistake and attempted to uninstall them by tweaking my registry. I'm a little fuzzy on the details now but after trying to uninstall the codecs and reinstalling only one, my folders continued to freeze when i selected video files (mpgs, avis). after reading about a possible solution from pcmag, I tried deleting keys associated with the divx video players i had previously installed, thinking that i could reinstall the proper codecs. Now though, I can't listen/watch any audio/video files at all
So, what can I do to fix this? Is there a targeted way to restore the registry and avoid reinstalling everything on my pc? The error code I get from WMP is C00D1197 which means that wmp doesn't have the codecs to playing anything now (says that the file is unsupported). How can I reinstall the default codecs for my media players?
Thanks soooo much for your help!
