Hey guys thanks for readin my post,

I have a pretty strange problem on my hands-

not too long ago i installed a audio mixing program that somehow changed a registry value (i know this one was bad). That value being where the "Shortcut" for my harddrive would point to that audio programs executeable. Yeah so the only way to actually browse my C: drive is to select it from a drop down box (top of my computer for example) So that right there told me it was a registry change and i want to get it back to default without re slamming XP or ghosting etc.. etc..

So my question being for you regeditaholics

where might the value for that specific item be found?

thanks in advance

EDIT: WOW sorry im running XP pro (with sp1 , that doesnt make a dif but probably should have it in there)

Just about everything changes registry values, this isn't inherently bad, hell Windows explorer changes the registry everytime you do anything in it.

Perhaps I'm tired or something but I can't figure out what you're trying to describe as your problem.

I'm also having trouble following -- where exactly is this shortcut you are describing? On your desktop? In "My Computer"?

Try running RegscrubXP and see if that helps. It does backup any/all registry settings you want removed/fixed.

LINK

THAT is where when i double click it pops up a box saying "cannot find target blablabl.exe" (which was the target exe for that audio software)

hopefully that clears it up

BTW when i select C from the drop down it works fine (thats how i knew it was registry related)

EDIT: you now have granted access to that picture,

BTW SIGN UP FOR A SERVER : ) (check the parent directory if you can)

YES bigbongfongstupidfooey

my deepest appologies go out to you and your eyes for having to read that in a seperate post

Hey bro, your link isn't working so we're all kinda helping out blind here.

As for a shot in the dark, delete everything out of the following key except 'default' then reboot. It will recreate itself.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices

You should also seriously consider just using a system restore point. It's designed for silly crap like this. Just go back a couple days to before you installed that app. It's a pretty gentle process and you probably won't even notice any other changes.
