Registry File Failure

System shutdown just fine last night. Upon booting up we received a blue screen with a C0000218 error message and "Registry File Failure." After 5 seconds or so on blue screen, it reboots. The cycle then continues indefinately.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking RAM or HDD died...

Urgent help needed here, if at all possible!

Thanks.

You didn't mention what OS you're using. Is it possible to boot to DOS and run scandisk (FAT file system required)? If so, do it and follow by running SCANREG to check your registry files. If you can't do it from DOS, try doing the same from SAFE Mode.

Are you on Win2k or XP? If so do a sys restore or last known good you may just have some corupt reg files. They may have been caused by bad memory or hard drive so it's still good to check those out.
Good luck

I ended up just reinstalling the OS. We had no emergency disk and the registry was too messed up for the windows reinstall cd to fix.

Sigh.

That means working until midnight or later today.

Godamn.
