After I login to Win 2k I get a choice that last's thirty seconds about trying to restore a user and an old copy of the registry. It's got a timer that last's 30 seconds. Besides not being able to play again games but Counter Strike/Q3/UT/Driver, this is the only problem I have and is very irritating. Is there anyway to get rid of this? It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I had that happen just last week. Here is what I did to fix it (I hope I remember all the steps, please forgive me if I can't quite cover everything as I am having a worse problem with it right now)
After the thirty seconds and I was all logged on with my temp profile what I did is this:
Go to explore your C drive, Documents and Settings, you should have a directory with a .bak or .bck after it showing that this is the backed up profile. Rename it without any of the .bak (just remove the .bak or .bck from the name) do a restart of the system and see if it logs on normally. Mine did, I considered myself lucky. I had to reset a few things, but no big deal.
Good luck

Wiz- I don't have a backup with a .bak, the folders in that directory are (Documents and Settings): All Users, All Users.WINDOWS, Evan Walker. Is it the All Users.WINDOWS?

Thanks

Are there any clues in event viewer? You are logging in as the Administrator. Can you delete the rogue profile from control panel>users profiles? Are you saying that now, you're having problems playing some games? New installation of win2k?
