Registry Cleaner

I play BF2 and have gone through a few tweaking guides. One of the suggestions is that I run a registry cleaner. What is the best free reg cleaner out there, and if there are store bought reg cleaners that are better, what ones are the best? I am also just wondering if the reg cleaner is horse shitt or if it actually does a good job.

Reason I am trying to tweak is because I am getting lower FPS than I want. I run an Athlon XP 3200+ on a A7N8X rev 2, 74G Raptor, X800XL, 2G Samsung Ram. Thanks

I have several that I use. I don't need all of them, but some do miss a couple things. Here's my list:

Abexo
ccleaner
Regcleanr
RegScrubXP

All of them are free, Regcleanr may be a little difficult to find now though. I would think they help system performance a little as they do get rid of junk entries in the registry. It's not going to be massive increases, but if you're after frame rates it might be enough.

What are the risks in running a registry cleaner? As I'm very capable of screwing things up major...pc internal workings curiosity has gotten the better of me many times, without the knowledge on how to fix.

I know diddly squat about the technical & internal workings...ie shared dll's...I don't know what purpose they serve, along with countless of other things in Windows XP.

My pc is running slower, browsers don't open as quickly anymore so I know something needs fixing & tweaking (?)

But I'm petrified to do anything other than delete folders or files in my documents and remove the odd program I download that I don't use. Run anti-virus, spybot, clear cache & cookies weekly. Along with disc cleanup & defrag occassionally.

I like CCleaner than anything else. I also use standalone Norton WinDoctor but it is not so perfect.

I use RegCleaner all the time, though I have used JV16 and like that one too, but I just find RegCleaner to be quicker and it is about 1/6th the size of JV16.

tuneup utilities is the best.... 30 day trial unless you activate it 😉

has 1 click maintenance... does all in one.. its nice
