Okay...
So i'm over 18 (not by too much) and i still haven't registered...now the government is sending me threatening letters about hundred thousand dollar fines and 5 years in jail. Do i still have to register? Does the government actually crack down on you if you don't?
Is there anyone here who is significantly older than 18, hasn't registered, isn't in jail, and cares to share their opinion?
Thanks.

Why don't you just register? I think you need to be registered to be eligible for college grants and loans.

You have to send in that form for Selective Service (I think that's what it's called). If you don't, you can be denied loans, scholarships, etc. for college. I'm not sure if the government will go to the extreme of putting you in jail, but I could see a fine or two being issued for not registering. It's an easy form, and only took like two minutes to fill out. I believe its purpose is so the government knows how many people it has to draft from should a war occur and a draft is necessary (although I could be completely wrong).

All guys have to register. It doesn't mean you're signing up for the army, ot just means that if the need ever arose, they can draft you. The chance of that is pretty slim. Go ahead and register to save yourself from fines and possible jailtime. It's no biggie :p

You have to register for selective service for a lot of things, school, govt jobs etc. Nobody is ever gonna draft you anyways.

wuss, its been over 25 years since the last draft so go register. If there were to be another war and it wasn't just, you could always be a conscientious objector or something like that. Its not worth the hassle of not doing it, takes only a couple of minutes to fill out the form
