Id just tell the guy that has the BMW you cant pick it up for 2 weeks, if he doesnt like it, but someone elses BMW, of course offer the guy something for keeping it there

As far as I know, you should be able to go the Connecticut DMV headquarters in Wethersfield (just south of Hartford) & take care of the license reinstatement in person which should take care of your problem.... call the CT DMV to make sure before making the trip though.

It's not going to say 'dmv processing time'. It's going to say the same thing it does now except there will be one more entry showing a reinstatement date.

Your license was suspended for failure to appear in court or failure to take care of the ticket before your court date.

well, here's another interesting addition to the story.. i kind of have to get the car asap because my dad is taking the car i'm currently driving off the road as of nov 1. I dont want to, but I'm forced to drive on a suspended license because I like having a job, and I cant get to my job without a car, hence BMW. I'm between a GIANT rock and a hard place.

and to all of you who are thinking "wow, this kid is a rich whiney punk", well, I'm 19, paying for car and insurance by myself and i've never been pulled over. just the one accident which really was just that - a complete accident. and yes, i majorly screwed up by not paying the ticket ontime, live and learn. its a mistake i'll never make again.

I don't fault you...that's what cops and DMV are for. Besides, I've done some stupid crap in my youth too. Like you said, live and learn.

Did you call DMV? I honestly don't think you'd have any problem registering the car. Driving it home could be tough...just don't get pulled over. ;)

BTW-I've had poor luck with used BMWs. They are fairly expensive to repair and maintain and the later model years aren't terribly reliable. Whatever you do, don't get an automatic.

Well, if you look at the lower left, is says SUSP...suspended...You'd better call DMV on this one. If you get caught driving that new Bimmer with a suspended licence, it will get impounded, and quite possibly, you will go to jail for driving on a suspended licence...regardless of WHY it's suspended or for how long...

You don't go to jail for driving on a suspended license. Hell, I've been pulled over with a 1lb of weed on me, half of which was broken up into smaller bags, and didn't go to jail...of course, that was like 20 years ago. ;)

Depends on the state laws. I koow several people who have been jailed for driving on a suspended licence...In Washington & Kahleeforneeya both. Not to mention, that IF he gets caught, this short suspension is gonna turn into a MUCH longer suspension...

"What will happen if I'm caught driving with a suspended or revoked license?

You'll probably be arrested. Driving with a suspended or revoked license is usually considered a crime that carries a heavy fine and possibly even jail time. At worst, it may be a felony; you could end up in state prison or with an obligation to perform many hours of community service. The penalties will probably be heaviest if the suspension or revocation was the result of a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI)."

http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c12.htm

"Driving While Your License is Suspended or Revoked

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (AUO) is driving while your license is under suspension or revocation.

AUO-3rd degree. A driver may be convicted of AUO-3rd degree for driving with a suspended or revoked license or privilege to drive. This is a misdemeanor punishable by a mandatory fine of $200 - $500, a mandatory surcharge and possible imprisonment up to 30 days or probation."

Yet, I don't see that not having a license is stopping the millions of illegal immigrants from driving cars in our country...or buying and registering them for that matter.

Edit-I live in a country full of hypocrites and sheep...

The one I bought is in pretty good condition. It's had its water pump replaced with one with a metal impeller, new alternator, thermostat, battery, abs sensors, belts, pulleys and tensioners within the last 5k miles, clutch done 2k miles ago, has had mobil 1 oil changes every 3k miles for its entire life, and has the service records to prove it. also has zimmerman cross-drilled rotors, ceramic brake pads and alpine radio w/ 6 disk changer. it also has a limited slip and a 5-speed, to boot :D

for $4800, i couldnt see a reason not to buy it. it needs a little work done, has a cracked fog light and could use some bushings replaced, but otherwise its quite solid.

I'm really psyched to get it, and i'm also hoping it doesn't become a money pit.

thing is, i took care of the fine BEFORE the suspension date. letter from the DMV said if you take care of it before the suspension date, no fine will be due for reinstatement you just have to wait for them to process the reinstatement.. which makes me wonder if it might dissapear from my driving record altogether or if it will show that it was reinstated. Seeing as I complied with the court, I'm hoping it just gets erased when it's reinstated.
