Hi,
I'm buying a dual athlon (MP 1600) system based on an MSI K7D Master L MB. The manual says that unbuffered RAM can be used in the first two slots without stability problems, while registered has to be used in order to utilize all 4 slots. I am planning to buy a 512 MB module. I would prefer to go with unbuffered, since it's a lot cheaper, but is it safe to do so? Also, is it possible to have 2 unbuffered modules and two registered modules (not that I would ever use all 4 slots)? The system has to be running 24x7.
Thanks,
David Levitan

Go to Crucial.com right now and they have a $25 off coupon for 256mg Reg. ECC ram. Make 2 orderes and use the coupon twice and you will get your 512mg and have Reg. WITH ECC to boot.

But don't mix Reg. and NON-Reg. ram.

Yes you can use NON-Reg. ram in the board but there is more of a chance that you will have problesm. And if it is going to be run 24/7 then yes spend the extra and get the good Server ram.

I got 2 of the Reg. ECC ram from Crucial(right before the price went up :) ) It will be going in my Asus Dual Socket A Board. Should have it up tonight or tomorrow. I put in 2 1Ghz durons. Hope to get them them run at 1.33Ghz (Just bump the FSB up to 133)

Use a different e-mail. Maybe a different credit card (not sure about that - I use one-time numbers)
