Register Tweak for AMD 760 boards to bring CPU temp down: It works!!!!

It looks like sombody at Athlonoc.com has found a similar tweak for the AMD chipset, as they have for the VIA chipset to bring down the temps:

You need the handy WPCRSET and have to change 3 register setting which are in command of the temp settings: if it works that is great:

Link to Athlonoc.com's AMD 760 register tweak

and a simplified guide here:Overclockers.com's AMD 760 register tweak

At overclockers com they brought the TBird 1.33 Giga temp down from around 55C to 32C with the tweak.

yes im using it. K7 master with 1.33 t-bird and tiasol h/f. temps were around 105 deg f at idle now there at 91 deg f as i type. works great.

I second that. Works wonders on my K7 Master as well. Loaded temps, of course, is identical.

Incredible: I just tried it: instead of 40C in idle, I'm now at 32C. A difference of 8C! Imgagine how much fan power you need for this. That is too good! Where is the drawback?

Thanks for finding this article. Now I know why my idle temperature was only 2 C difference than my full load temperature. I had completely disabled the ACPI power management system. I hated it when I was using my scanner at max resolution, the ACPI would kick in after 15 minutes and I couldn't get back into the computer. Anyway, I turned it back on and my idle temp dropped to 40 C. I'll try the real tweeks later to see what it will drop to.

Just a reminder that the in socket thermistor's on all socket A boards are inaccurate. The only measure the temp of the bottom of the CPU PCB. A good rule of thumb is to add 5C to whatever your motherboard reads the CPU temps as to get a better idea of how hot the core really is.

and that is exactly why the Gigabyte GA-7DRX has such a thermistor, which is touching the bottom of the CPU PCB. As you said, the reported temps are much higher, than with other boards.

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know my results from this tweak, EDIT> to W2K pro SP2 <EndEdit .

I was suffering at 55c idle using the K7 Master and an AMD1200.
Temps on load climb above 60c. I had the chip tested (ok). Exchanged the MB for a new one. And my temps were the same. My chip when sent back was running 45c. (Chip was gauranteed to overclock form 1430 to 1540) Well , needless to say I got a bad overclock due to the temps.

I applied this tweak and my idle temp dropped to 33c !!!!!

THATS 20 DEGREE Temp difference in CELCIUS. !!!!!!
