They won't spend five minutes learning anything about the candidates or the issues. They have zero concept beyond Bush vs. Kerry. They know nothing about congressional, state and local candidates or issues, and don't care. Then they go to vote and pull lever after lever for people they don't have the faintest idea about. Name recognition is their sole criterion, and then they complain about why all the incumbents keep getting re-elected.

I had always assumed that people who were motivated enough to register to vote would also be motivated to learn something about who and what they are voting for, but I've since found out that's not the case.

So if you fit that description, no offense, but please stay home. Stop re-electing incumbents and you'll see real change.

EXACTLY! Forget "get out the vote" programs, we need to a) restore the public trust in news organizations and b) educate each and every person as to how they are affected by the issues. People need to take an interest in shaping our society and voting is just one part of that. You should vote for change, not because someone made you think it was your duty. The last thing we need is the 40+% of the population that couldn't find Iraq on a map before 9/11 voting for president!

I recently graduated high school from one of the top five richest districts in the state of Pennsylvania. After four years of social studies courses including two APs my classmates could write you a ten page paper on the causes of the Revolutionary War but couldn't identify whether Republicans were pro-life or pro-choice....
 
For anyone who lives in Arizona, has a driver's license, and has a license that has a digitized version of their signature on the front of it, you can register to vote 100% online. Nothing to print or mail. It's completely electronic. You can do it here.

And I think this is the biggest misconception ever. My gf, who's not a citizen, always get jury duty notices, and a few other people that I know that are not citizen do get them as well. I think they pull the name off DMV records.
 
For me, I have been voting but this year I call it quits. Nobody has really identified what the US needs to do. The US has shown itself to be ignorant, arrogant and a pompous ass as a nation to the world and then wonders why the towers got blasted. I think we had better wake up and smell the international roses.
WE CAN"T COMPETE!! AND WE SUCK WHEN PRESIDENTS LIKE BUSH THINK THAT ISRAEL CAN BE FEED BACKDOOR $$ W/O IMPUNITY!!! No wonder the Arab natins don't trust us and Europe dislikes us and is disgusted. America is a great country but we have not won the hearts of the people of all nations nor of ours. It is time to realize the actual "Art of War" philosophy. WIN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE!!!!!
