Regifting Ethics

Is it ok to regift a present that is a gag present?

I'm going to a Christmas party soon and my mom gave me a light up, skanky, angel thing.

I say yes as long as you're not re-gifting it to a family member or close friend.

check for money first...sometimes people put good stuff in a gag gift.

just remember, no one likes the guy who brings the "gag" gift, especially the person who gets stuck with the "gag" gift.

Don't regift. If you don't care enough to actually buy the person a gift, don't bother giving at all.

I dunno... I think it depends on the gift.

last christmas, my parents gave me a gift that I really had absolutely no use for but that I knew my friend would love. regifting my parents' gift worked out pretty well... better given to someone who can use it than to have it sit in a drawer in my apartment for years.

In which case it will probably be re-re-gifted. 🙂

The only rules for regifting is never let the original gift giver or the gift receiver find out.

I won a centerpiece at my company Christmas party this year. My wife regifted it at her office Christmas lunch. Perfectly ethical IMO.
