I use several addresses. I have a BellSouth address (checked with Outlook Express), I have a work address (check with Outlook 2003) and I have a yahoo account and gmail account (spam magnets/test accounts)

Alright then, based on the replies I don't feel stupid for using web-based email. A lot of you use your own web servers but I don't have a domain or any need for one, so I can cross out that option. As far as personal email goes, one account is good for all my needs, and since I'll be going to college soon and didn't want to switch everything over to my school's address then, I just switched everything over to Gmail now.

I still use the web interface for my hotmail (semi spam account--registrations and what not, about half my online purchases), my yahoo (has emails dating back to 2000 on it--I ended up with quite a few stored on it as I had the whopping 6mb storage capacity) and my gmail (like the interface, would lose that with an email client. Oh, and netscape, which I've never gotten any email on.

*makes mental note to spread spam there too*

I use Thunderbird with my 2 isp (roadrunner) accounts, my domain admin account, another account on a friends website, and my spymac account.

I have my wife's roadrunner account (which is the main account) set to forward to her hotmail account.

Trillian notifies me of yahoo and hotmail messages, and I check gmail in Firefox from the toolbar.

On the bright side, the spam gets spread fairly thinly and evenly, like butter, all over my accounts. So it's not too much of a pain.

Holy crap! you need to concolidate.

the only email i DON'T check via the web is my Exchange mail from work. Hell I would use OWA if I could to, but I need to test out software integrations with Outlook itself before I put them on user's PCs

I check gmail, hotmail, bellsouth mail, and joemonkey.com email all online only

How do I set this up for Yahoo? Is it possible without a Yahoo! IM account or is that required?

A Yahoo! IM account is required - at least it was a few versions back, and since Trillian is an IM client, I can't imagine that changing.

That said... I thought that any Yahoo account was automagically also a Yahoo IM account... can't remember, it's been a *long* time since I set that up.

i used roadrunner in the past, and i never made an email account.

now i use cablevision (optonline), and i also haven't made an email account.

i like free accounts because if i get too attached to an email account, i wouldn't want to give up the service...

Good point. Just like my Hotmail email address is automatically my MSN Messenger login. Problem is I have 4 Yahoo email addresses, lol.

You could add all of the yahoo accounts to your Trillian window... just don't add any contacts if you don't want to use the service 😉

Trillian just checks for mail when it connects to the IM servers, I believe.

Although you're a Horde whore, you're ok in my book ... Ryan on the other hand has issues

I use POP3 via Thunderbird on my own server...

I interface with an Exchange server via MAPI in my software project. SATAN. SATAN. SATANNNNNNNNNN.
