regarding the old AMD bug w/ K6 processors...

my uncle wants me to build him a computer that plans to only use with some old software...the software only runs on win95 , not win98, so i need to install it...the processor he'll be using is a K6-III 333mhz...does this bug still apply? it was originally for K6-2 350's and up...but i figure they might have fixed the new processors since this was a while ago...anyone know please help...thanks

It's not a bug in the CPU but in Windows95. Yes you should use the patch.

Yep, the problem is in Win95 so you'll need the patch; also, don't forget about the Y2K patch for Win95 as well!

there is absolutely no reason that a program that runs on win95 can't run on win98

they're the same damn thing

The problem does NOT occur in W98. It did occur in Win95, but it's intermittent. I ran a K6-2 @ 504 with W95 for a long time, &amp; basically you just keep trying to boot into Windows until you make it once, then install the patch &amp; you're fine. Or, underclock the CPU to 333 or so, install the patch, &amp; then crank it up to where it should be.

But again, that was only for 95. 98 doesn't have the problem.
