LOL!!! Do you need it? Or just lust after it? :D

i think i 'need' it as much as its possible to need a graphics card...check out my computer in my sig. i feel that it would be a HUGE upgrade for me.

If you have zero intentions, or means, to upgrade the rest of your rig, then this would be a sweet improvement over what you have now. 6600GT? pfft. :D

I'm in the same boat, but I need two of these. I'm hoping I can find them for 200 or under.

How faster will be 3850 compared X1950PRO 512MB ? Double ?

Here's one of the few reviews I could find pitting the X1950 Pro against a HD 3850, i't an Ultimate HD 3850, but I think it gives a pretty good idea of what you can expect ....

http://www.sharkyextreme.com/h...le.php/3211_3723966__3

Nice results for 3850, better than X1950PRO at least 30%.
And i guess it requaires better hardware setup too.
I have allready HIS X1950PRO 512MB Turbo edition and is enough for now until x2PCIe rig.

Hey folks. The inquirer actually has some very important and useful information about AGP 3850 and Vista. This doesn't concern me because I'm still on XP and will be for a while yet, but for all of you considering this card and run Vista, this is for you.

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/...50-agp-supported-vista

From what I've been seeing a lot of people seem to be getting the same problem with Powercolor Card and XP as well. Cat 8.3 should sort this out as it's only a DeviceID String that needs to be added to the Cat INF Setup File.

Also Keys, we're getting closer to your price point by the way. If you use the Google link instead of the direct search method at Ewiz.com, you get the Sapphire HD 3850 AGP for $6.15 less. It must work like PriceGrabber ...

$205.00 :D

Do it now man. My pci-e 3850 512 loves me long time. Best card I've ever owned and I am the proud owner of a 6800 vanilla that unlocked and an eVGA 7800GT which were both stellar cards. The HD3850 has all the same goodness with tons more speed.

it it's anything like my 3870 it is big, but I wouldn't say that it's inordinately big. I think that my x1950xt was at least as big as my 3870, for example. what were you using before?

edit: 6600gt??? really??? yeah, that's a BIG jump in size. I still have my old 6600gt lying around somewhere, waiting patiently to be put back into the game...

How big is big? I read 9" so perhaps a bit smaller then ye olde X1650/X1950 at 9.5", if I recall? Conversely, the HD2600 I run now is 6.625". I think the previous 7600GT and X800XL were aboot 7 and 8.5" respectively so I have been downsizing over the years ;)

The Powercolor HD 3850 AGP has just shown up at Newegg for those interested. Except it's well hidden and listed as an HD 3870 AGP card. No wonder I couldn't find it before. In the specs though it says it is an HD 3850 however.

Here's a link to save others from the dreaded SEAD (Search Engine Anxiety Disorder).

$224.99 ...

That monger's prices are obscene though: $231 for Powercolor and $221 for Sapphire. In comparison, ewiz is $207 for the latter, possibly less via froogle referral depending upon destination.

Anyhoo, the Powercolor cooler looks good. Gecube also announced a product but I have not seen it in ze wild. I wonder if HIS and VisionTek will also come through as with the 2000 series. HIS was the most interesting since they sported an audio controller on the XT (rare for AGP models) and a non-reference cooler too. Any word on audio for the 3000's?

Don't know about Gecube, but the Enquirer article mentioned a Visiontek model. Maybe when all the players show up here in the US, the prices will drop to the PCIe levels. I'm still on the fence since my PS is iffy- 420W Enlight and only rated for 18a on the 12v rail. If I have to buy a new PS too, I might as well go for a new system and step into the 21st century.
Anybody have any luck running these with old low power PS?

Hey, I see you made it over here from PCP. Something I didn't suggest to you in the other thread is, if you can find a place with a decent return policy, you can try it out and just send it back if your PSU isn't up to it. Guess you need to wait until some place like Best Buy has them before you can try that though. There is no-restocking fee and you can return within 30 days even if not broken.
