If a person doesn't mind rebates, the Corsair CX 430 and EVGA 430 watt will also sometimes drop down to $15.99 AR free shipping.

Please don't threadcrap.
If you have personal experience with this power supply, post it.
If you have other linked reviews pos/neg, post it.
If not, do not thread crap for the sake of jumping on the bandwagon with the others here.

I have however, edited the title and the OP's post for accuracy.

The cold tests were interesting, you must agree, and these tests were more so.
The unit behaved pretty much like it did for voltages when it was cold.
That is, until the button was pushed for test four, my heart filled with dread.
The unit ran for a second or two or three and then BOOM, it was dead.

That's from a DiabloTek 1050W PSU review at JohhnyGurus.

http://hardocp.com/article/2010/12/17/diablotek_phd650_650w_power_supply_review/3

Build Quality Summary

The overall build quality of the Diablotek PHD650 is bad. By "bad" we mean awful. And by "awful" we mean, "Who the hell put a 650W label on this unit?" and "What were they smoking?" The exterior of the unit is nothing special but the huge sticker covering the majority of the unit is ugly, to say the least. When we move to the interior the unit really falls apart though with its older topology, single layer PCB, atrocious secondary, and horrible component choices. The capacitor selection features LCZ primaries and BH secondaries and are selections we would not want to see in any power supply, ever. The build quality section of this unit is on the short side today since the build quality is a lot on the short side, and three pages of "total crap" over and over and over again would probably look like an introduction from The Simpson's.

That's from a HardOCP review of a DiabloTek 650W unit.

-

I've been reading these internets for quite a few years, and I am unaware of any DiabloTek PSU that has ever been professionally-reviewed, and received a positive review or a "Buy" recommendation.

However, the OP is free to post any reviews suggesting that one should actually purchase a DiabloTek PSU. I'm waiting.

Working as a tech in a retail computer store for over 16 years now, i've seen dozens of dead diablotek power supplies come through my door.
We have purchased several diablotek cases that come with a 400Watt Diablotek power supply for cheap system builds.....however we still remove the power supplies and replace them with better units.

There are still several of them sitting in the cabinet that will probably never be sold. The risk of damage to our pc's components is not worth the risk IMO.

That said i'd say that the best cheap/good quality PS for a budget build would still be this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-026-_-Product

CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

$19.99 w/free shipping after $20.00 rebate card.

I understand the general rule for threadcrapping, but seriously that should not apply to Diablotek power supplies. Bad products, scams, etc need warnings.

Again, please see Esquared's post and then the very nice post by Virtual Larry following it. The rule is fairly simple. -Admin DrPizza.

I totally agree with mikeford's sentiments. Not all of us are hardware experts and even fewer are hardware experts in every category. To many people a PSU is a generic component where you should just search for the capacity and cabling you need. After all I'm never ever going to look at it once it's installed-if it's sufficient power capacity and has the correct cabling needed that's about as far as most people will look.

That said I for one greatly APPRECIATE the so-called threadcrapping in this thread. It has warned me off diablotek. As one prior poster pointed out it's not worth risking the rest of your build to put in a subpar PSU.

And there is way to get that warning accomplished as I pointed out. Which Virtual Larry and daveybrat, did in posts 7 and 8.
To come out and just say: "I understand the general rule for threadcrapping, but seriously that should not apply to Diablotek power supplies.", is not the correct way, and is threadcrapping. My guess is that daveybrat's post did more of warning you off than did mikeford's post. Now please stop discussing the rules in this thread. If you have an issue with the moderation or the rules we have, make a thread in the MD subforum.
