Here are some good deals on factory-refurbished Onkyo receivers (and a couple full HT systems) at ubid.com. It is an auction site, but these items are selling at fixed prices. They come with a 1-year factory warranty.

I got the TX-8511, a stereo 100 W/channel receiver, for $139 plus shipping. I think the best price for a new TX-8511 is $240 with free shipping, at jr.com.

New TX-8511

From what I've read, Onkyo is one of the best mass-market audio brands.

ust like to add that I purchased an Onkyo refurb. It died after one month. I live in LA so I could drop it off at a local Onkyo authorized service center. I might add that if you buy a refurb it is a good idea to research a bit on where a service center is located. It is not a refurb for nothing. Also with any hot running electronics - extended warranty. HOT!

THe reciever I have is the NR801 and I bought it from OneCall about 6 months ago for cheaper that the refurb one. I did by a refurbed Onkyo 6 disc DVD player from them 2 years ago. Got the 1st one and it would not even turn on. The second one has its quirks but I got it for a song so I live with it.
