Anybody ever buy a refurbed motherboard from newegg? How was it? Did the board come with missing stuff? Did it even come in a box?

I'm wondering if I should buy this motherboard from newegg but hesitant... I wouldn't care too much for IDE and floppy cables, nor would I care for a manual and cdrom. I would like for it to come with usb connectors, firewire breakout connector, etc.

Anyone have any experience with these?

I bought a refurb 8KHA+ a few months ago, it came in an epox box with drivers, ide cables, floppy cable, manual, USB add-in header, and the mobo.

Ran great, still using it. I got it for about 1/2 price at the time.

I bought an Abit KG7 it came with a broken capacitor, the cables, manual, cdrom were all a VERY USED condition. The motherboard was scratched all to hell. It went back to Newegg the next day.

I also bought an ECS K7S5A, came with everything, looked brand new, rock solid, I have been using it for a second system for a few months,. It is always left on. I try not to buy refurbs from newegg anymore unless:

1. Its too good of a deal not to take the chance
or
2. I have the extra cash to take the chance

Damn, I get all the luck! :(

Anyways, mines came in this week and I just inspected the package. It came in a whitebox, which is what I expected, but came with no cables! I wish that it came with at least something. Basically, a bare board. Oh well, I also ordered a 2100+ XP and 1 Gig of PC2700 memory so we'll see what's up with the board... Hopefully, it turns on.

Only thing I forgot to get is a case. Now I have to either shut down my system that has been runing 24/7 for over a month or use an old 250 watt Antec I have laying around...

I bought a refurbished Tyan Tiger MP for $160 from Newegg.

It had no cables, manual, or anything. It's still working, 6 months later. So far, so good. I'll probably replace it with the next version of the Thunder if it ever dies.

It depends on the brand board. It's not Newegg that packages these things up, but the manufacturers themselves.

That's where boards like these come from.

We (vendors) send RMA boards back to the manufacturers. The manufacturers repair or replace the boards. They typically do not come back in complete condition.

Biostar : Sends back new product. Box, everything.
Gigabyte : Sends back board only.
Asus : Depends. Usually comes in a white box. Usually has at least a manual.
Soyo : Board only.
ECS : Board only.
Abit : Typically complete.
Tyan : Board only.
Intel : Board only. Intel sucks. If you get a Pentium 4 board, for example, it won't even have the heatsink basket on the board.
Epox : Typically complete.
Shuttle : Typically complete.

I'm sure I'm missing a few brands, but I think you get the idea. ;)

I've purchased 3 refurb mobos from newegg. All three were bare, and didn't work - at all. No posting no nothing. FOr the headache it wasn't worth it. I've purchased other refurb things like Video Cards, CPUs HDDs, etc and they have been fine.

I've been using a Refurb Gigabyte GA-7VTXE+ from newegg for 8 months now. It came in a big static-free bag with nothing else. Haven't had any problems with it.

I brought a Refurbished Epox 8KHA+ motheboard from Newegg.com and it can with everything the retail mobo can with. It had the manual, cd, all cables, extra usb bracket, etc.

I am currently using this mobo in my system at work without any problems. A++ deal for me.

If there was an XP2100+ out there working properly with a 250W power supply, it needs to go into the Guiness Book.

I've yet to see a 250W power supply w/ more than 20A available on the 3.3V rail.

Newegg refurbs are untested customer returns. Definately a gamble. It's cheaper for them in the the long run to simply turn around and sell them untested.

Unlike the much more expensive boards linked above which are vendor replacements, overstocks, etc, with limited warranty - not a good deal.

Shop right, buy new, get the warranty/accessories/support...

Refurb motherboards = teh suck

Like jonnyGURU said, it depends on the manufacturer. I bought 3 Epox 8K3AE refurbs over the course of a month, and all 3 were 100% complete. They came in new boxes with all driver CDs, cables and manuals. None of them looked "used" at all. Mine is currently running an XP 1600+ at 166FSB and 512 MB DDR PC2100 (OCed to 2700).

Newegg does ROCK, so if you have any problems, contact them directly. I'm a very loyal, satisfied customer, referred by another loyal customer.

I just bought a refurbed Gigabyte 7XRP or something similar(KT333 board). In the box, there was just the board, the receipt, and some popcorn. It works fine though.

I have bought quite a few. the vast majority (80+%) have come with all the accessories.

I have only had one bad board, and it was a ECS K7SEM that would not load from a hard drive. It would post fine, but the controller was bad. Newegg refunded me the $ when I sent it back because they did not have another. I did loose out on me shpping it back, but with the huge amount of $ I saved ont he other boards, it is a small price to pay.

To add on to jonnyGURU's list, here are my experences:

ECS: Most came 100% complete. Did get a K7S5A with nothing, just board.
Tyan: Board only. ( also a small sample, this time of 2 )
Soyo: Complete ( small sample of 1 though :p )
EPoX: Complete.

I bought a refurbed K7S5A from newegg a few weeks ago. Bare mobo in antistatic bag inside a fedex box inside of ANOTHER fedex box. Board works fine, no accessories though and I didn't get one with the integrated LAN. It's just crunching SETI anyways.

I bought a brand new mobo from them a while ago and ended up having to return what I got: a refurbished board that was still broken :| I bought what was advertised as a brand new P4, too, and I got a used one. :|

You're basing this on being an end user.

I'm twlling you what the manufacturers send back to vendors, which never varies and I see thousands of a week.

Take your Soyo and ECS for example. Soyo will NEVER, EVER return a motherboard with all of it's accessories. Even if a reseller returns a Soyo to Soyo with EVERYTHING, that vendor will get a Soyo board only as an RMA replacement. Kiss the accessories goodbye. If you bought a Soyo or ECS and it came to you as more than a board, that's not an RMA replacement from the manufacturer. That's another customers RMA that tested good for the vendor.

Wow, late late late reply but I just got back from my little vacation in Cali.

Anyways, the board works like a charm, but I didn't try it on a 250watt. I tried it on a 300watt which works fine.

But the problem with the board was when I initially got it, it was dead. I was like NO DAMMIT! But I did a little tinkering (back from the old computer shop days) and found out the battery was dead. No prob, just replaced the batt and it was fine.

So jonnyGuru, that only goes to confirm what I thought, these newegg refurbs are actually customer returns, which they resell again instead of testing it, and if it comes back a second time, they RMA it to the manufacture. If these were manufacture RMA returns, they should at least work.

Anyways, mines was a barebone board, no cables, no manual, nothing. It didn't mattered because I have so many cables around the house it's ridiculous. All I want is an Asus firewire adapter ;)

I've purchased two from them. One an abit, one a msi. Both work fine, and came with everything.
