Well, first of all, a refurbished product means that something was probably wrong with it and then it was returned and has been "fixed".
I might buy a mobo that is a refurb, but not if I really needed something to work perfectly, I might buy it if I was making another computer but not for my main machine.
I would definitely never buy a refurb cpu. How can you "fix" a cpu unless there wasn't anything wrong with it in the first start, or maybe the company didn't find the problem that the customer had.

Afterall, if the deal is too good to be true, chances are that it's not good.

they are nearly all returns. i have ordered probably 20 item from newegg 'refurbed'. 19/20 worked right away... none were actually recertified products....

Boobers: This incident happen to me last week.

(currently, they haven't approve my RMA request toward this Gaiward Ti450 yet)

Just want to clear out, I ONLY had this bad experience with Video cards.
I have order 2 refurbish mobo before, and they all work like a charm.

I think some people may order from newegg and do some EXTREME overclocking that my result the product failure.

Does anybody know if refurbished motherboards wouldn't overclock as well as new ones? Somebody mentioned that a lot of the "refurbished" CPUs might just be CPUs that people returned because they didn't overclock well, I was wondering if the same might be true with motherboards.

hehe TimeKeeper:

I'm almost afraid to even buy new video cards from Newegg...

I'm not sure who they have packing those or what not...but the last two orders I've had to work with:

order #1: back in Jan, ordered a GF3 Ti200 bare card. Received a retail boxed GF2 MX something. GAAAAAAH.

order #2: just this month, ordered a Radeon 7000 DDR. pretty much DOA. whenever it did post, screen was a garbled mess of flashing ASCII/ANSI characters.

Everything else from them was fine.

Haven't ordered much in the way of refurbished parts.

My only comment on most of them is that it's more likely the previous owner didn't know to/simply couldn't get the part working correctly and returned it. The other case of the product not overclocking well...I hadn't thought of that. That's pretty low though. Running through Newegg's inventory for good overclocking stock. *sigh*

CrazySaint:

I suppose it's possible, no two parts are really created equal...perhaps another motherboard sample has better quality capacitors (whatever kind of odds those are) and the voltage reports in the BIOs are better as well, I suppose that's a possibility, though I see it being very unlikely that anyone would return a motherboard with that being the case in mind.

iamtrout:

Anyways, the minor 30 day warranty is pretty good since you do get to see if it's bad with a little testing. I'm pretty sure the manufacturer's warranty will pick up after that UNLESS the part is specifcally something that Newegg RMAd and the part they're selling is a straight refurb from the manufacturer (in a lot of cases this could be it). You'd probably have to call and ask on an item to make certain.

But as far as P4 processors go, if most of them are Socket 423, Why get one? None of them are Northwoods. You'd probably be better off looking at a different S478 motherboard and a lower clockspeed Northwood than looking at refurb s423 boards and processors.
