i know refurbished products carry a stigma for some folks (myself included sometimes), but in my experience, Dell refurbished monitors are as reliable as new Dell monitors. besides, take into consideration that it sells brand new for $650 shipped at the egg, and while it has occasionally been as low as $550 shipped on the egg, this deal is still $100 less than that. while not the absolute best 27" IPS monitor out there (professional ones by NEC, Eizo, LaCie, etc. are probably of higher quality but, far more expensive), it is certainly one of the best non-professional 27" IPS monitors out there...it is arguably of higher quality than the 27" 2560x1440 IPS monitors that have recently been coming in from Korea or the ones Monoprice.com recently started carrying.

anyways, onto the details...i found this deal on TechBargains.com, and the retailer is Dell Outlet. here are the instructions from TechBargains.com:

  1. CLICK HERE
  2. In the left margin, under "other ways to shop," click on "Check Prices - Monitors"
  3. Look for the "U2713HM" for $597
  4. Add to cart and apply 25% Coupon Code: "8PZ5HZF6NDRQCR"

enjoy...

Current Dell monitor are plague with QC problems even when new, they are coming out with a reversion that use a new panel to correct it. Stay away from them until it is fixed.

I was actually about to pick up one of the crossover 27q's on ebay until I saw this. Even with the QC issues would this still be a better bet than the Korean monitors? I'd imagine even if I got a bad panel Dell would still stand by their monitor warranty and exchange it.

Wow, I had no idea the QC was quite this bad. I think I'll take my chances on the crossover then, thanks for the heads up.

well i guess this deal isn't as hot as i thought...i had no idea about the QC issues. are they having the same QC issues w/ the U2711?...b/c that's on sale for $549 shipped after the coupon code SDW7RZ4J1P20BM from Dell Small Business right now (which isn't exactly a hot deal since it regularly goes on sale for $549 shipped, but it beats the pants off of the standard price).

Bought a U2711 with the $549 deal and it looked perfect out of the box. Then again I don't get my panties in a twist when there is a really minor amount of backlight bleed. I only notice a tiny amount when I sit in the dark at 2AM with the lights off staring at a black screen which isn't close to my use case. Lights on I can't see it.

Amazon is dumping lots of returned U2713HM's on Amazon Warehousedeals. Currently they have 114 in stock, just for an idea of the quality control of these monitors. The price went down as low as $459 two weeks ago.

Personally I'm waiting for the newest revision in a few weeks.

Awesome price, but sounds like a better option is stick with a U2711 instead, if you can find a refurb/used one...

Looking around, the main complaints seem to be back light bleed, cross hatching, and dead pixels. The deal is from Dell outlet and only has a 90 day warranty, but wouldn't that cover any of these issues? Also, as far as I know, there's no way to guarantee you get an A02 revision if/when they release one. They'll probably still run out their A01 stock before shipping A02s even if they have them so you'd be rolling the dice on which one you get.
