Refurbished Cards and Power question.

Anybody looking at my previous post knows I am looking for a new video card and people told me to get the 6800 instead of 6600GT.

Are refurbished cards a good idea, since they are also cheaper?

But then it says, it may come with cables and stuff.

Also, if I look at spending more money and getting a lets say 6800GT, will I need to get a power suply (PSU?) to? Or should a dell 8200 run it fine?

Edit: Any store recommendations?

Edit 2: How does this look?

Thanks.

Thanks.

:Q ! u gotta be kiddin me....I would reckon of a new pc also. I'm quite positive that you need a better setup, I'm sure you can use the card. But it wont be as satisfying as you might think, it will just cause more problems than gratification...

I would start looking on a newer pc, not horribly expensive ones...or build one by your own.

Umm...I would buy a new PC if I had the money. I have got like 200$ and want to upgrade my graphics card right now.

Later if I then buy a new setup, I don't need to get that. Its not like the card won't run on my setup.

By October I should have, 1 GB RAM, 2.4 Ghz processor and this card which should run almost all games fine, maybe not on max settings but run them fine.

Incase, the 6800GT is too much for my system, then I can get a 6800. What do you say?

If your getting new comp..later in this october, then the 6800GT will do great for you on high settings w/ no problems at all. But keep in mind, that you need a sufficient psu giving out 400 watts and at least 12 v rail pumping out 18-20 amps or more at the least.

But nonetheless, these cards aren't that better

6800LE
6600GT
6800

either these three you might save a few bucks or so

Look again. That card is nothing more than a 16 pipe 6800NU. We're talking 700mhz 128MB DDR1 here. I'd rather get a refurbed 6800NU for $130, take my chances, and attempt the unlock if those were my two choices.

If you have AGP 4x, I'd say the rest of your system is equally old enough to bet that your PSU will not handle a Geforce 6800 card. Plus, I've heard that 6800s have issues running in AGP 4x mobos, although I cannot confirm that myself. Maybe someone else can, or even dispel the idea if it's fiction.

Personally, i wouldn't get a refurbed GPU. Not really worth the risk...they are usually just cards that people try to OC or Unlock pipes and fvck them up.

Google for CPU-Z, run it, and then show us your specs. From what I see from your manual.. doesn't look too pretty.

I'm not too sure about it, but your PC might bottleneck your card... you might want to settle for lower with those specs, maybe a 6600GT (150ish) or 9800pro (130ish).

Or you could do an overhaul, maybe a faster CPU and definately more ram (at least 1gb).

I will have 768MB by tonight.

I will have 1 GB by October end.

I might think of a faster CPU after more paychecks and money come this way :p

Also.. you said that you had a 250w PSU. I'd recommend replacing that before getting a new card.

Too bad you weren't looking for a video card a few weeks ago. :( ATI was having a clearance on refurbished x800pros w/ three-year warranties for $179 plus S&H. I got the x800xt PE deal and my shipping was $15.36. With the additional 5% online coupon code, you COULD HAVE had a card that slaughters the 6600GT and is just a tad slower ( 200 3D Mark 03 units ) than the 6800GT for around $185.41. I like both ATi and nVidia video cards ( see sig ) but the price on those x800s were pretty darn good.

The Shuttle system in my sig has a 250 watt PSU and it is running the components listed. Make sure that Dell 250w PSU has 16 or 17 amps on the +12volt rail.
