Note this is a haswell celeron, intel 4th gen core architecture. This is extremely good for $130 even if its a refurbished and not running windows.

A haswell celeron (at 1.4 ghz) has a similar single thread performance as a

  • 1st gen i3 at 2.1 ghz.
  • 2nd gen i3 at 1.9 ghz (2nd gen i3 at 2.1 ghz is about 10% faster so about the same single thread performance so doing the math 2.1*.9=1.89)
  • 3rd gen i3 at 1.5 ghz is about 5% faster
  • Amd 8-6410 at 2.4 ghz, 2.4 ghz is the max turbo has about the same single thread performance (a8-6410 is AMD Beema aka amd best 15w atom at 2.4 ghz)

This is about 73% faster in single thread than the atom z3770 at 2.4 ghz which is the max turbo.

I believe this is the best price this model has been. A lot of people who own it seem to love it.

If you need a machine for web surfing, video chatting, media watching and writing documents with either Google Docs or Office 365 then you're good to go.

Plus it has HDMI out too. Also supports Chromecast of course.

Yeah I had one and loved it. My little brother wrecked his previous laptop so I gave this chromebook to him for school

I have a C720 & it is GREAT! I have the 2GB touchscreen. 2GB is fine, haven't yet felt a need to go 4GB. Touchscreen is so-so, would not buy it with touch again - not as good as say a Lenovo touchscreen & not really super useful in practice.

Even though I want to buy a 13" Chromebook, I do really love the size & form factor of the 11.6" model - it's like a little book that you just pick up & go, battery lasts forever & day, zero issues ever. I never have to maintain it, it's just something I use.

We reduced our household to a single desktop computer in the kitchen. I only use it if I'm doing a video editing project (need the horsepower) or if I want to sit in a chair & nef with some food or something (chilling works better with a table). I like the Chromebook sooooo much more than my previous iPad for surfing the net, and even just to look up stuff that would be a small hassle on my iPhone. Love having a physical keyboard!

Agreed the one I have would be perfect for me if it had a keyboard backlight.

Also don't forget you can hook this up to a TV as it has HDMI out.

Add in something like the Logitech K400 and you're good to go. Also a hot deal right now: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2394071 ;)

Or a Chromecast for casting webpages and I believe mirroring too. Also another hot deal: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2393846

I was at a Store checking out the Chromebooks. This model is pretty awesome. If you're worried about the size of text on the screen I found going in the settings and setting the text size to large or very large and page zoom to 110% or 125% looks good. It all depends on your eyes and how big or small you like things but you can make it work on that screen size easily.

Take this with a grain of salt. At least until people get there Chromebooks to see....

Rumor is these could be new Chromebooks that Acer is unloading as they just released a Core i3 version of the C720 (raises the price too). I believe two other models are also in the works?

Reason for this rumor is because of the amount of refurbs that Groupon seems to have ready to sell.

Also some people have gotten a 20% coupon from Groupon too.

Does a chromebook mean it cant run windows stuff like office?

It can run online apps (some have offline support too). Like Office Online (No Offline support. Yet.): https://office.com/start/default.aspx

Chrome app shortcuts:https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/word-online/fiombgjlkfpdpkbhfioofeeinbehmajg

And others: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search-apps/Microsoft Office

You can use Google Docs with QuickOffice which handles Office files quite well (Offline support):https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/office-editing-for-docs-s/gbkeegbaiigmenfmjfclcdgdpimamgkj

Chrome app shortcuts: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...innegkcijnfilokake?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon

And others: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search-apps/drive/google?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon

Also look at the Docs PDF/PowerPoint Viewer (by Google): https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...hgmkedmbmedengocbn?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon

More info on Chrome OS. Look here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2394380

I'm tempted to order one of these. I realize the limitations of the Chrome OS and it would be used as a portable web browser around the house.

The thing that concerns me is Groupon's reputation for slow delivery. Has anyone who ordered received their order yet?

I'm helping someone who ordered one as there first PC.

Amazon has some hard shells on sale for $16-18 depending on color which maybe can save it if dropped: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...%20C720%20case Has kickstands for typing too.

Also Amazon has some really nice AmazonBasics Laptop bags: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-1...rhf_gw_p_img_2

If you want the free shipping depending on which hard shell you get. Add in a $5 Mouse or Headset or cleaning cloth unless you have Prime that is.

For $130 this is really hard to pass up. I'm in for one, even if it becomes a gift for somebody.

No problem. Snag this deal as they have re-released this model just with an i3 and nothing else new. While it's a wee bit faster it's also $350 new.

I frequently use mine docked as a "desktop" - i'd say I split my time 50/50 between my main desktop and the C720.

When I don't need my 75w idle 2500k desktop, the 10w C720 gets the USB-hub (keyboard + mouse ) plugged in and my monitor switches from DVI to HDMI and I'm on the C720.

*Small update* Some people in the SlickDeals forum have gotten theirs and are reporting that the condition seems new so far....

My previously purchased 720 refurb also looked brand new aside form the box and has had zero issues thus far. Great value for the price.
