Hey guys, I have a concern. I bought a Refurbished Zotac RTX 2080 Ti AMP directly from the manufacturer to replace my 1080 ti (the 1080 ti is great but less than perfect for smooth VR, plus I'll sell it to make up most of the cost of his greatly-discounted refurb card.).
This 2080 ti card has been acting strange and I only have a few days to decide if I should return it or keep it.
Please refer to the attached image / screen shot from the Stability Test using 3DMark Time Spy.
First, while the memory is rated for 1750, It looks like it after 3 minutes it under clocks to 1700. My 1080 ti drops frame rates at that same time for the same test, but it does not lower the memory frequency.
Second, it appears to have a thermal limit of only 60? Looking at the graph, as soon as it hits 60 the frame-rate goes down. I tried many stress tests and it almost never goes above 60 no matter what I throw at it. I suppose another way to look at it is that only hitting 60 degrees at 100% GPU use means that it would be a great overclocker...
What's more, I tried to use FurMark to heat up the GPU and I blue-screened in like 5 seconds. No crashes with the 1080 ti after running in for two minutes (I didn't run it for long as it's a dangerous program).
So all this leads me to think that this card is a failure and it should be returned. Yet, still, it IS performing about 30% better than my 1080 ti., which is what I expected before the purchase.
It's the binned A chip that is suppose to be great for overclocking, though despite everything I've tried, I can't flash another BIOS onto it to see if it performs any better.
So, should I keep this card or return it? Thank you in advance for your feedback.
For what it's worth: Other system Specs include an i7-5820k overclocked to 4.4 ghz, 32 GB of G.Skill DDR4 memory, and an Antec Twelve Hundred case with a zillion fans to keep everything cool.
