Don't be posting auction crap here. Plus 80 bucks shipping...ridiculous

I actually like UBID for some things but on anything heavy the.89 a lb is a killer

Not only do they charge outrageous shipping but they keep bidding open past the closing time if they aren't getting prices run up like they want. I suspect they put some ringers in there bidding to run prices up too but of course I have no proof of that.

Well then who should I go through to get good deals on monitors? I don't care if they are refurbished by the manufacturer. I want to keep it under $200 :)

If you live Southern California (and maybe elsewhere, I dunno)...never buy a monitor off the internet or B&M unless your getting one of those great deals and even then, do a reality check.

PF790's were going for about $350 at the LA Fairplex computer fair in December 2000. Most of the other deals suck but computer fairs are still good for monitor deals and hunting for select components/software. Sometimes some of vendors have no idea what their goods are worth. At one show I went to in August 2000, some guy was selling a full professional version (Not student) of Mathematica for $200 (retail cost is about $4000)...needless to say my friend picked it up. Vendors mislabel stuff all the time...so you could get 1 ghz PIII for the price of a 700E, 256MB of memmory for the price of 128MB, and so on...

dont go to monitor outlet either or any other place, go to staples and find the monitors that they have then go all over the net trying to find the cheapest one and then pricematch it with them then use one of their discount coupons to make it even alot cheaper thats what i did on my viewsonic E70 and i ended up getting it for $160, its a 17 inch though but a helluva buy for this model at that price.. my $.02

It's a suicide buying a refurbished monitor. Might as well buy a refurbished HD.

I agree with VBboy. I bought a refurbished CTX 17" monitor 2 years ago and it quit working after 3 days. I got it replace and the replacement started acting weird about a month later. After 1 year it just quit working.

I'd just bite the bullet and get a new 19" for a cheap as I can that has a warrenty. Usually you can find one at a B&M for around $200 after rebates.

Try secondwindpc.com They are used not refurb. Prices looked good to me. I have not ordered from them but another member speaks highly of them.

Couple words in defense of Ubid:
It took me a little while but if you read carefully they say that th auction closes at OR AFTER certain time: meaning that if there is a bid in last 10 minutes before the close, they extend the bidding time for another 10 min. My understanding that they fight with bid scalpers this way, obviuosly they don't loose :)
Another thing, they clearly state that their shipping depends on weight .89$ for lb, which pretty much kills any deal for heavy machinery :)
FWIW.

i got 2 monitors from ubid.....

a sony e400 19" flatscreen for $325 shipped......

came to me in good condition. nothing wrong with it.... 90 days warranty from sony.....

and......

a 21" ibm p260 flatscreen monitor for $440 shipped...

this one had a small crack about 1" on the casing, but the monitor is perfect.... 1 year warranty from ibm on this one.....

i dont' see what's wrong with ubid.... ppl just dont' read carefully. at first i thought it was 19 bucks shipping plus 1 dollar handling fee or something..... which is 20 bucks.... but then i reread it and it said 19 bucks flat fee plus another .89 or .99 per lb.... so the monitors cost about 80-90 to ship to me.... but for those prices mentioned above.... that's pretty cheap.....

after winning the ibm one, i e bay'd the sony one for 370.... 50 bucks profit... i say ubid is a good place to get refurbed monitors......
