Refurb video cards at Newegg w/ free shipping

Newegg has got in another boatload of video card refurbs w/ free shipping. I had to pick up a BBA Radeon 9600 pro for $133.50. There are many other cards with good prices. Hurry, these usually don't last long. Link

So THAT's where all the dead Gainward cards ended up at!

Seriously. A few (6?) months back, people were testing entire crates of Gainward cards and finding that only 2 worked. I'd stay away from these.

EDIT: OTOH, they have a Parhelia for only $369! Mmm, Parhelia... 😉

Well maybe that was some of the earlier model Gainwards. I bought a Refurb Gainward Ti4800 from them a few weeks ago and it worked PERFECT ever since! The Ti4800's don't have the capacitor problems.

happy b-lated welcome to anandtech. i bought a gainward geforce2 a long time ago (two yearsmaybe), and its still running smoothly, maybe i got lucky?

In my opinion, there have already been more than enough people regularly checking Newegg refurb section, so there is no need for anyone to put a post whenever they update their refurb site.

I used to get quite a bit of good stuff there, but now, it seems that all the good stuff is gone in 10 mins after they get posted.

So you feel that it is necessary to thread crap because other people, besides yourself, are sharing deals on a deal sharing web site. I am sure that some appreciate a heads up when Newegg re-ups on the refurbs. I know that I have appreciated it in the past when others have informed me. I was simply trying to return the favor.

YES, because by the time you finish posting it, the deal is nearly dead anyway. Most of Newegg refurbs have only ONE unit, so you will not be sharing the deal with other people.

You got a BBA Radeon 9600 pro refurb for yourself, and that was probably the only ONE BBA Radeon 9600 pro refurb they had there. And no one else will be sharing the deal of getting a BBA Radeon 9600 pro refurb for $133.50.

I realize I'm a newbie, but I've been skulking around these threads for a while.
And you, sir, are coming off as a snob at the moment. ) :

Name calling really is not needed 🙂

I for one appreciate the Newegg refurbed posts, has anyone thought that maybe AT is not the only place posting this info? And maybe enough people have taken advantage of the refurbs that they are skulking waiting for them to pop as well? And maybe AT may just be one of the groups that does not actually sell out the refurb Newegg section everyday?

So if you are out there informing your group that you like so well, I don't see anything wrong with that, except for maybe the fact that one person with a negative attitude because they can't get there quick enough is pissed! I'd say join the grumpy old men forum because this whole forum is about Hot Deals, and we all should be coming here to share them.

Have a Nice Day! 😀

I'll refrain from the should/shouldn't post argument but how the heck is the PNY GF3 Ti500 for $109 still available, jump on this quick. 😉

I'm 0 for 2 newegg refurb video cards, and now I'm out $10 I could have put towards a new card.

Gainward 4200 - artifacts everywhere
Abit 4200 - crashes in 2D on multiple computers running different drivers

Bleah...pisses me off...

Most video cards I get returned are because of poor cooling on the GPU. Usually the cooling fan dies and so does the card. I know that on all of my Gainward purchases this was the case. I have since stopped using Gainward or Asus for that matter because of the cheap fans.

I would say if your card is artifacting it might very well be from a poor cooling device. I know that you probably don't want to spend the cash on an additional piece for the card but that could be a cause.

Advice, I would not hesitate trying any of the made by ATI cards, Palit/Daytona line, and Jaton are usually pretty good about making a stable card. Sapphire is the OEM label for ATI, they are usually pretty good as well.

The fans were working fine on both the cards I got...but the first looked obviously overclocked. First, it smelled, and second the ram chips looked like they had overheated. Dunno if you've ever seen what I'm talking about, but it's pretty obvious if you know what you're looking for. Even if they were *currently* overheating, I wouldn't expect them to artifact immediately like they did...

If the consensus were that this kind of Newegg refurb in stock notification type post is helpful for many (and it seems that's the case), I must have been behaving too much of an asshole posting what I posted. I apologize.

I buy Newegg refurb every once in a while, and so far, I have gotten one totally dead power supply, one very unstable motherboard, and one motherboard which became unstable after using it for a couple of months. I pretty much only buy Newegg refurbs costing less than $30 or $40 for my second or third system. I don't think that it's worth spending too much monery for them or taking a risk using them for my main system.

Newegg stands behind what they sell even after the RMA period. When my (non-refurb) motherboard died more than 6 months after the purchase, Newegg gave me full refund. You will not be getting the security when you buy the refurbs, and that's another reason why I don't spend more than $30 - $40.

In regards to wasting money shipping back bad refurbs for RMA, if you fax Newegg the receipt from UPS, FedEx or etc., they will refund you the shipping charge. Or at least that's what they have instructed me to do in the past, and I have gotten refund twice in the past.

I too have had a bad refurb experience, but as stated Newegg took care of me by refunding the price and shipping. Granted, these refurbs can be a crap shoot, but Newegg seems to do a great job of making things right if they go wrong.

Neutralizer - If your looking for the Sapphire... You can find them on PriceWatch, new, for like $149 shipped. This is still a good deal, if you ask me.

Newegg refunded the shipping YOU paid to ship stuff back?

Thanks, I saw your previous post after I posted. I emailed them a little bit ago asking if they wanted to cut me a deal on something else 😛 We'll see...

I agree with you on the overclocking issue as well, could have been a softmod of the card and they just pushed it too far. Obviously burnt up products should never even be offered, if Newegg were selling the refurbs correctly they would be selling the ones they got back from the vendors after RMA to them, not the returns they are getting back from the end users. I sell used equipment all the time, problem is when it takes 6-8 weeks to get your RMA items back you take a huge loss on the sale of the item from when you first bought it.

Also I did not want to imply that you were being an asshole but I would lighten up a bit, we are all here collectively trying to save dollars.

i got one of those refurb ti4800's and it was BAD BAD BAD....still dont have my money or replacement....13 days later...

Let's face it - Newegg's REFURBS are really RETURNS, sometimes not even tested!
I once got an OK deal on a refurbed Evermax 430W PS, when I got it, one floppy cable was burned to a crisp! PS worked, amazingly, so I just cut off the floppy cable, and it seems to work to this day, but still...
I snagged the Radeon 8500LE this time for my kids' system, will see what surprises await...

Thanks for the deal. I picked up the BBA 9600PRO for $133.50. I've bought a lot of stuff from Newegg, but this is my first refurb purchase. I have my fingers crossed this will be a good card.

Like dominos, I can put my Ti200 in my kids' computer and give their DDR RADEON VIVO to my brother. Everyone in my family likes when I upgrade. 🙂
