You must be kidding me, this is not even a good deal even if it is not refurbished.

If you are in the market for an external DVD burner for a laptop or small form factor PC that can't use an internal optical drive then it is decent. The regular price for this drive is over $100.

Not really, other external drives such as samsung, lg, etc when they have a sale, you can get an external drive for $50 brand new. This external sony drive does not have anything special, no firewire and other ports. Sony OEM other company for the core drive if not using their own NEC/SONY opticarc drive. If you really need an external drive, you can buy an OEM drive and buy the external enclosure or external adapter if you are going for cheap route and you can get an external case with USB 2.0 that can support up to 20X burning for around $50 or less if you assemble. For a refurbished drive, the only good about it is the shiny enclosure.

Not hot, IMHO. Better off getting a good internal drive like Samsung or NEC and putting it in an external enclosure.
