Refurb Laptop

I was really looking at buying a laptop lately, and I was trying to find the best deal possible obviously. But I also stumbled across some refurbs, and was wondering if you guys would recommend buying a refurb or is it something i should stay away from?

A company I used to work for did buy refurbed IBM Thinkpads as loaners/spares... Worked out pretty well. I don't know about other brands though.

refurbs are sometimes lease models that come back, restocked ones or broken ones that were fixed...

its a gamble, but if u stick to the higher priced ones.../higher models...there are more likely to be demo or returned ones...

Whatever you do, don't buy a Refurb from TigerDirect.com

I've make a mistake of buying a Toshiba 7200CT from Them, and the Battery was arive DEAD.
I ask for a refund, they denied, saying that is the chance I took buying Refurb......BULLSHIT!

I hate them with passion! 🙁

Refurbs are supposed to be 100% tested regardless of the problem that made them get refurb'd. New units are not 100% tested - they are random sampled/lot tested.

The problem is - what are legitimate refurns. Stick to the OEM - avoid dealer refurbs.

Yea, they suck which is why I have never bought from them. I avoid them like I avoid BestBuy.

As for refurbs. I have my second one on the way now from Dell. I had to send my current one in for repair once but I've had something break on every Dell laptop I've had personally (track record at work seems to be a bit better... new machines only of course). The Dell refurbs I've heard about and seen are just like new!
