Wow, some Bose-bashers in the place. I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong it is. I will concede that when I purchased mine, I listened to the 301's and the 201's and the 301's had a muffled sound. Although I think the clerk was trying to tempt me with the premise of bass rather than quality. The 201's which have a smaller woofer actually handle the whole frequency spectrum well. Granted they don't pump out the bass, but they're not supposed to. I combined my pair of 201's with a powered JBL 10" sub. And for you naysayers out there, I put a pair of Bose 141's on my rear channel. And the whole package sings wonderfully.
I consider myself to be rather well versed in the realm of home theater and while I will admit, Bose may not be the best product available, but they're are splenid for those on a modest budget. Gee wouldn't it be nice if we all could afford a system of B&W's? But not all of us can. So we get what sounds good on what we can afford. Bose prices have come down a bit over the last few years. And their quality and durability is above par.
So since I'm way off topic I'll say this, these JBL's are a great find. Heck, most JBL products are incredible! As far as how they compare to Bose, it's all about your own listening preference. I recommend visiting a dealer and finding comparable equipment to listen to. Don't let the clerks try to bowl you over with "the best". Find what's right for you.
