Refurb items from newegg?

What do you all think of refub goods from newegg? They've got a deal on a refurb 9800 pro for $152, and I'm thinking about jumping on it.

EDIT: Does a newegg refurb still carry a full manufacturer's warranty?
 
I know several people that have had great luck with refurbed goods. And considering it's from Newegg, I'd be tempted to jump on it since they run a legit operation and would be more likely to stand behind their product.

With that said, though, there have been seen several people selling used 9800 Pro's in the $150-$175 range. I'd probably try to pick up one of those before a refurb, simply because you're more likely to know the card's history and you know it won't be a refurb.
 
What would you recommend as the soure of a used card? Ebay? Half.com? The FS/FT forum? Do any reputable online dealers sell used goods?
 
Well, eBay can be good simply because of the volume of stuff that gets sold on there, but I can't stress enough to buy from someone with flawless (or close) feedback. I've always had good luck on eBay but I've heard some horror stories of people getting ripped off and people being misled about what they're bidding on, so all I can say is be smart and buyer beware.

I'd probably try to scope out the FS/FT forum. We have tons of honest members with good hardware for sale at decent prices. There shouldn't be a shortage of 9800's since many people are making the move to the 6800 and X800 cards. I'd recommend trying to deal with a senior member who has a lot of Heat (no negatives) to ensure a good product and a great buying experience.
 
I sold my 9800 pro with an Iceberq 4 for $110 here on AT. Check the forums before you buy on newegg, could save you some cash.
 
I've bought several refurb mobos from Newegg and they all worked fine but they all came in a white box without ANY accys - luckily I was able to "social engineer" some (non-standard) I/O shields out of Asus (but that took over a month and multiple contacts). I guess the farther the refurb price is from what their "new" price is, the less likely you will get all your accys. And almost nothing there is a true refurb (repaired and tested to mfr's specs w/ all original accys). They are mainly just returns (usually called "open box") or OEM stuff. I would almost buy used from the FS/T forum or eBay in preference - more likely to get most of the accys and you will actually get an answer from the seller if you ask them "what if anyting is missing". Where you just get a canned response from Newegg to such questions that usually reiterates what you already know.

I bought my refurb 200GB Seagate drive from Newegg. It runs great and still has a 5 year warrenty.
 
New question: do refurb items retain their original manufacturer's warranty?

I see JBT's drive does, but is that true of vid cards or other items?

yea this is so true, i recently bought a 36gb raptor and when i received it all the stickers were gone, now i have no warranty or anything.

I would pick a refurb item over a used anytime (assuming they are @ the same price) because a true refurb item is most likely slightly used and was returned to the manufactor to confirm the funtionality of the product.
 
I've used mobos and vid cards refurb from newegg. They are still running strong in friend's budget machines. But I've always picked GOOD ones, like ASUS boards and ATI factory cards etc.

The good thing is, Newegg will back it up for I think 30 days to protect you against a DOA or obvious hosed units. After that, you're a little shaky like some of these guys said. A company like ASUS will back you up. Others, or units without stickers, it's anyone's guess. So pick GOOD quality refurbs.
 
The warranty depends on who did the refurb.

But - consider this. Normal manufacturing quality assurance is based on lot sampling. That means there is no 100% QA inspection or test. But - - - refurbs all require 100% testing. I have never had a problem with them. Basically the QA is superior to the OEM.
