Refurb HDD

Never will I use a refurbed HD. My sister had one installed in her old computer by the service tech. I lasted just long enough for the machines warrenty to expire. 45 days.

No. Considering the low price of new gear, I would not risk my data.

No. I'd rather pay a little extra and get a new drive. I usually buy Seagates because they have a 5 year warranty on them.

I used either refurb or used SCSI drives up until recently as I wouldn't afford new ones. But I've gone to all SATA because the new ones are so cheap. I've got a Hitachi 7K80, 80GB and a7K160, 160G. Each was around $50 shipped and they put my 10k SCSI drives to shame for everyday use.
You just have to be careful about the 7K160 and check the compatible controller list as they'll play dead if you have an incompatible controller. Compatibility consists of the controller having the autonegotiate feature. It is with early SATA 150 controllers where there is the problem.
