If you buy a refurb, make sure you buy a new fan and some thermal compound with it.

Both the card's I've purchased refurbished from newegg have either had a dead fan or there was no thermal compound on it.

If you aren't going to purchase those two, make sure you check to see if there is some thermal compound and that the fan is running properly. Also, run it hard the first few days to make sure if it does crap out, you can still get your money back from New Egg. I can't remember the full policy but I know it's not many days.

Well, you're taking a chance. Newegg should honor their 15 day grace period, so if there's anything wrong you can just return it to them within that time. The price is right though.
